Misc Anyone try GABA (Gamma-Aminobuytric-Acid)?

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but I noticed that some vendors sell GABA (Gamma-Aminobuytric Acid) and I was wondering if anyone here has ever tried it and if so I had a few questions about it:

1) Does this stuff significantly relax people and if so, in what ways?

Meaning, does it help with general anxiety and/or social anxiety and or as a muscle relaxant?

Being that GABA is the chemical in the brain responsible for anxiety relief and which both benzos and alcohol work on I'd imagine that taking it would relax one and one vendor that sells it says it is used for this.

2) Is this stuff physically addictive? Afterall, both benzos and alcohol are...

3) Have people who have tried this found it to help them in increasing muscular strength and endurance or helped them in workouts?

Because this same vendor says that it can do this because GABA "helps to support lean muscle growth, burning fat, increased strength and muscle mass, etc"

Any additional comments about what taking this stuff is like and how to properly use it would also be appreciated.

GABA doesn't really do much compared to barbiturates, benzos, and similar drugs.
It doesn't cross the blood-brain-barrier significantly, so large doses are needed to achieve a calming effect.
It definitely is addictive.

Gabaergic drugs, in theory, should improve one's physical performance but in practice, they don't induce any significant change.

Ok so a couple more questions then:

1) Even if it doesn't have strong effects in comparison to the drugs mentioned, if you take large enough doses dose it have any beneficial effects and do you personal think it could be a supplement you'd recommend trying or do you think it's not beneficial?

2) So, if it's addictive then how infrequently would you need to take it to avoid addiction?

3) If you got addicted, how often would you need to take it in order to avoid withdrawals?

4) What withdrawal symptoms could you experience? Can you die from GABA withdrawal like you can from benzo withdrawal?

GABA as a supplement doesn't have addiction potential, I mean, it barely has effects if any at all beyond placebo for god's sake.

By that logic tyrosine or L-dopa must be addictive too..

Yeah, I don't know if flyhighk was referring to supplement GABA or GABAergics as a class, but I don't understand how the former could be considered addictive. I've tried the supplement GABA at varying doses and never noticed any effect whatsoever. It's been awhile since I took it so I don't remember exactly, but I know I tried taking at least 10-20x 100mg caps at one point. It could be that the brand I bought wasn't the best, but from everything I've read, GABA is very subtle if not completely ineffective for most people. The same goes for Picamilon (GABA + Niacin); it seems the inability to cross the BBB prevents any noticeable effects.

This is a huge misconception. GABA itself doesn't cross the BBB; but once processed by the body, it does take effect in the brain past the BBB..... I just had a huge discussion about this with my doctor.... I'll post more info later....

So, has anyone ever used this to combat anxiety?

Surely someone here must have experimented with this.

How strong are it's effects?

GABA did absolutely nothing for me, I suggest you don't even waste your time/money. Now, if you were to add a phenyl ring on to that GABA molecule, that is a totally different story.

If there was a rep system on here, I'd +1.
