Iv been depressed because of my constant use of drugs. I talked to my doctor. What is a good prescription medication that combats the urge to use drugs, and the depression. I need a solution, even just for a short period while i get back on track with school and a job.

I got on suboxone.

What drugs are you using, and are you dependent?

Im using cocaine, weed, and alcohol, somewhat regularly. I use mdma every once in a wile. Cocaine is the one im realy trying to stop.

I tried that with my Doctor.

He put me on SSRI's which was awkward.

I have done some reading on SSRI's ( not knowing what they were). Im under the age of 18. I honestly feel like if i dont get something to help me ASAP. My life can take a turn for the worse. Im at the bottom, iv never felt lower.

I have one option coming up this week. An appointment with my doctor. I have a shot to tell him what i need. Having eniough experience with doctors i know how SOMTIMEs they can just give the simpliest/esiest solution.

How do i act/what do i say, to ensure my point gets across?

Iv been using MDMA thorught my life, and it has caused me countless psychotic problems, all have been covered thurougly on the site. My cocaine habit is brinign me to a even lower point yet. I knwo the best help for me would probibly to talk to a psychotherapist, and stop uding drugs. But i need an immediate solution because i have dug myself such a deeo grave, i find it impossible to do any of the things that will tuely help me without some sort of help.

Iv read that ADD/ADHD could be playing a role in my abilities to focus hard on things i may not like doing, however i have no choice and must do them

I NEED SOME HELP AND SUPPORT8o

It depends on if you want to tell your doc about all the drugs you do and your depression. what if he thinks your a abuser and marks you with that on your chart.
That is what mine did. I told him all about weed for years and experiment with a bunch of crazy shit and he has not prescribed me anything since, not even pain pills for when I almost lost my fingers. He probably thinks I would abuse them. That wont help me if I really need medication one day.

If you ask him for SSRIs, which is really common now a days. If you started taking them in a week, they still take 2-3 weeks to start working.

5-htp everyday helped me back in my Senior Year. stressing over if I would graduate. 5-htp really picked me up everyday and it wasn't some prescription drug that was super expensive.

I doubt your doctor would give you Xanax because your only 18, but that would also help for anxiety if taken responsibly everyday.
About the ADD/ADHD you could talk about that along with anxiety and depression.
I described it to my doc as not having the drive to even get out of bed in the morning. I was hoping to get a stimulant like adderall to pick me up, but he gave me 10mg celexa SSRI which I hated and stopped taking 6 months later.

Its up to you. Tell him about the drug use. Or tell him about the depression/ADD. or both.
Just dont say you do crazy drugs like coke and stuff. keep it to weed occasionally to make you happy or to help you do stuff, some booze mayb to relax.. you dont want him to think you are a druggie to much.

Good Luck

Whatever you think works. I would worry that he would classify you as an abuser and might not give you the good stuff you want lol

You could tell him you self medicate with some drugs like weed, and ask if their is a prescription he could give you so you don't need to self medicate. Saying that marijuana when you smokes calms you or some shit and helps you deal with anxiety. Say you don't want to illegal smoke and if their is some medication you could get to help with your anxiety.

For the ADD I dont know, you might wana take it one thing at a time. Whatever you think is more important.
anxiety which can happen anytime in life, especially when things change or life gets rough.
while ADD/ADHD is usually detected and diagnosed when your young and is more genetic and doesn't just spring up when your 18. Your chart might already say your not in that category of attention deficit.

The anxiety/depression I think will have you walking out of their with a new script.
Plus how do benzos or SSRIs react with stimulants? Im not to sure about that.

I smoked for 5 years. almost everyday. I would use it for everything too from insomnia to anxiety. When I quit, a lot of things health wise came back to me.
My dreams came back. I am now not tired and don't pass out during the day because I am blown. I workout now and am happy about my life my situation.

Marijuana is good to medicate but moderation is whats key. Everyday is too much considering what your going thru with school and trying to concentrate on your fixing your depression. Weed IS causing a lot of that tension and anxiety you have, seriously. I know its super hard to quit but im not sure that a prescription drug could help you not do drugs per say, they can just change your attitude.

The first few weeks I was on my SSRI I lost the urge to smoke which was odd, it helped me quit and that wasn't my plan at all. I just didn't want to smoke, I was happy and didn't need to be stoned to get me more happy.

If you are serious about quitting weed then you need to get rid of the temptation its simple as that. Get rid of a bong if you got one, delete some phone numbers, don't be around it or anything. weed will be their in a few years if you still want it but hold off on it until you graduate, find out your plans for college or not, and get a job.
Im sure that if I did not quit I would have been like my friends and not graduated. They kept smoking and got lazy the end of school and now don't do shit all day but smoke and collect food stamps. Losers.

SSRI did help me quit weed in a since that it made me not want to smoke. It didnt supplement the feeling of being high. It just made me think that my life is more important then weed right now, and that weed wasn't worth my time. Kind of confusing but it just changed my whole outlook on my future and made me realize that I was revolving my life around a plant.

I think for you. 18 years old a SSRI would be much better than some benzo anxiety medication. I got my SSRI beginning of Senior year, just 10mg super small pill, but it worked.
You just need to tell the doctor super seriously that you need to turn your life back strait and the depression you have right now is not working for you, that the drugs you have taken have put you in a depressed hole you want out of and you just need that pick me up.

Depression. I don't know how bad you have it, but it sounds like you can fix this right now.
The Anxiety goes hand in hand with Depression. The SSRI will take care of any anxiety and stress you have about anything. It gave me the "I can conquer the world" attitude that I never had before.

Since you probally dont have a history of depression your doc would probally give you the bottom of the line SSRI, like mine. Celexa, the weakest of all anit-depressants. Just somthin to take the edge off of the day while your having a hard time in life right now.

Dont go strait ask him for 40mg of Welbutrin or something like Paxil. Let him tell you about SSRIs, ask some questions on whats best for your age and situation. tell him you did some research and you know how they work on correcting depression.

Im no doctor myself obviously, It just sounds like your going thru the same thing I did.

-drop the weed
-drop all drugs and start filling your time so your not bored
-Doctor appt. ASAP and dont leave that office without the SSRI script, you deserve it.
-Depression is what your dealing with
-Your anxious because your depressed about not knowing whats happening in your life right now. You dont know if you will succeed or if you can quit drugs, a hundred different things running thru your head everyday about your future, and it probally makes your nervous also, that is what makes you have Anxiety.

You got this, SSRI take that bitch for a few weeks and stop smoking pot. And you will do just fine in the near future.

I am glad I can give you a little info about your situation.
It is what I did to fix it, and if you do it you'll succeed for sure.
Hope it helped

Deadhead, that is some awesome advice. It makes me happy to see people who want to help others by sharing their own experiences. I just wanted to point that out!

OP, being honest with your doctor and asking questions that show you've done research is a great way of moulding the situation. If you're going in there knowing about what certain medications can do for you or the pros and cons, you're showing the doctor that you are serious about recovering your life and getting on the straight and narrow..

I also agree with seeing a psych about your issues as they can help you more. Some doctors may think you're going in there asking for these crazy drugs and then completely block you out, so a psych will take your feelings and experiences into account in your prognosis (as well as showing you're taking the first steps to recovery and not just out there for drugs).

SSRI's pretty much mute the effects of MDMA, so it would be useless to take it if you're on SSRI's.

nice, very nicee!!

be completely honest with your doctor and you will get the best treatment for your issues. you need to get on the right medication for you (you might have to try a few or a lot before you get the right one for you, just dont give up) and therapy (like the medication, you might have to see different therapists who use different methods before you find the right treatment). the most important thing is to remember why you want to be clean, and to keep on making positive steps in your life.
