I've got a sweet schedule right now and I think I have time to do this. I'm wondering if it might not be the most effective way to do it though. btw my objective is SOLELY to put on muscle.

Lots of guys train AM and PM, and some in between as well. It really all depends on how complex your workout schedule is. How "hardcore" are you willing to go, or how much time do you have to work with. If you are going pro and are preparing for a contest, your ass will be trying to work every muscle you have and you will probably be spending a good part of your day in the gym.

The average guy in the gym usually works his primary muscles, if you start to focus on muscles that you don't normally work, you can find yourself working out all day.

Bottom line, you just have to make sure you give your body enough time to recover, that's the most important thing to consider when making a program. You also have to recognize what secondary muscles you are working when hitting the primary ones. It's a simple matter of math. IMHO!

^ Good advice. I've found that I benefited the most when I went from working out everyday to working out every other day. I'm one of those 'primary muscle' guys though, I'm not interested in meeting competition standards, just tryin' to stay relatively healthy ;) I'm sure there's more room for play if you're hitting every muscle you can.

my workout schedule is not complex at all. I usually do a 5 day split with weekends off (chest/tris, bis/abs, shoulders, back, legs, or something along those lines), but I was thinking I could probably to all 5 twice in a week. not a good plan I gather.

unless your over 30 nearly every gym freak can train twice a day and not be over trained.

its surprising just how much excercise the body can handle when your young.

^^Not necessarliy true. Just listen to what your body's telling you. If you're feeling run down, weak, etc from 2adays, you need to reel it back. Myself, I can't muster up the energy to workout twice in a day, and feel it would do more harm than good. Being on-cycle would defintely make it more beneficial and changes things around a bit.

I have done it before but like 8 sets instead of 5-6, awesome boost like this:
Morning:
chest
shoulders
triceps
traps

Evening:
Legs
biceps
forearms
Abdominals and rest of core.

I used to be able to do it for short periods but I simply cannot anymore. I've gotten to the point where the intensity is just too high. I only train for about 80-90 minutes 5 days a week but the intensity is so high that I am mentally incapable of doing it anymore than I currently am.

Whenever I get into an "intensity rut", I usually switch over to lower intensity with higher volume. And vice versa.

My general philosophy is that both "Mentzer-Yates" style intensity programs and "old-school" volume programs are valid approaches to mass. In practice, though, I use low-volume high intensity mainly to maintain mass during a cut, and high volume low intensity to increase mass during a bulk.

^ I don't mean High Intensity in that sense. I do high volume its just that my work outs are so intense mentally/physically that I cannot do them twice a day. It simply would not be possible.
