Is anyone here pre-med or already finished premed and gone on to medical school? Can anyone tell me their experiences, etc?

Yep I'm pre-med. Writing my MCAT this august. I recommend taking a prep course, both Kaplan and TPR are solid. The MCAT is a lot of work, for the interview you'll need a couple references and an autobiographical essay. Good luck.

I am "tentatively" pre-med. I'm going back to school in the fall to take physics, organic chem, statistics, and maybe cell bio and bio-chem. During the coming year I need to do some volunteering and start gathering references. My GPA is pretty good, so I just need to get a good MCAT (which sounds tough!).

I don't really know if I want to be a doctor, but I definately know that I hate working menial jobs for low wages! I think it would be incredible to have a job where you fix people and keep them healthy, which is basically why I'm considering it.

I'm just not sure if I have the right interpersonal style for it though. Maybe surgery is where I belong :)

BTW....plurredchemistry mentioned

It's a great site!

I'm changing my major soon. One of the two majors I'm considering are Premed. The other is architecture. Either way I wont be making enough money to pay the bills for a long time

I'm a Bio major and will probably jump in the Pre-Med bandwagon. Will be taking Organic Chem this Fall... never hear anything good about it. Def not looking forward to it.

Organic Chem ain't that hard.

You just seriously have to keep up with the work. Go to ALL your classes and actually DO the readings/tutorial work.

It is a fair bit of memory work espeically with naming of compounds and reaction structures, but it is definitely doable :)

CB :)

That's awesome to hear! :\

Yeah I know... going to class sucks... I didn't go for the first half of semester for 2nd year organic chem, and then had to study my ass off for my final exam to just scrape through with a pass.

One of the big lessons I learnt by 3rd year at uni was that going to class makes everything a fuckload easier! :) Yes... it took me 2 whole years to learn that... but hey...

There's no "pre-med" major at my university, just science majors that you can take and then apply to medical school. My major (biochemistry) is very commonly chosen, and I'm taking all the high-level classes that premed students usually take. It's quite hard, lots of work, etc, but it's all incredibly interesting. Make sure you go to class EVERY DAY, and do ALL your homework. And talk to your professors a lot if you can.

Getting into medschool is equal parts how well you play the game and knowing all the stuff they throw at you.
