Hey guys. So I went on a 2 day Vyvanse binge a month ago..if you even call this a binge. I took 90 mg the first day and 60 mg the second. I ate fine and didn't do too much. Well my anxiety has been crazy for the last month. Constant lump in the back of the throat...just honestly a constant feeling on anxiety that nothing will cure. I've tried visitaril, herbals meds, and anti anxiety meds like Remeron. I'm a little scared right now that this feeling of constant anxiety will never go away. It's been a month. Anyone ever have this happen to them..and how long did it take you to feel better?

Well I wouldn't think that taking the Vyvanse did that. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but that it's unlikely. You took about 75mg of amphetamine, and it was over two days in extended-release form. That's less than 40mg per day. Maybe it triggered some anxiety that was already just beneath the surface, maybe not.

Remeron is an antidepressant. Vistaril is used for anxiety, but there are a lot of other medications for anxiety. The SSRIs, SNRIs, Buspar, and antipsychotics, all can help intense anxiety.

If you want to help yourself out, I'd recommend exercise and meditation. Therapy is key, too. It's impossible to know what you're going through just over text, but you seem to be suffering a lot, and I am sorry for that. Hang in there!

I noticed that the most used class of anxiolytic medication for short-term "intense anxiety" is conveniently not mentioned...

OP: the problem with anxiety is that it's self-perpetuating. Negative thoughts feed other negative thoughts...you think there's something wrong with you (maybe triggered by the stimulants, maybe not), which leads to rumination and further anxiety, and the stress and "hyper-vigilance" just gets worse, which intensifies the feeling that there's something wrong with you, more anxiety, et cetera. You need to find a way to break the cycle and alter your thought patterns. Easier said than done, I know...merely recognizing that you have a psychological problem of that nature doesn't automatically mean that you can "will it away".

not the vyvanse if its a month later and vyvanse is the least anxiogenic of all the stims. most likely just over thinking it and having a bit of paranoia.

either way, with time you will recover. a month isn't that long when it comes to brain stuff.

lay off the drugs, eat protein, exercise, etc. magnesium can help (chelated is recommended, i use bisglycinate), and a b complex and additional methyl b12 can help too. b vitamins can be a bit activating but are never a bad idea.

hoping for a speedy recovery for you. :)

I don't know why anyone would recommend taking a neuroleptic drug before a PRN regiment of a low-dose benzodiazepine, but OK...

Antipsychotics and antidepressants have also caused "much trouble" for people (I can attest to that personally) and have wide side-effect profiles but you had no problem mentioning those.

I never recommended anything. That's not how this site functions. Benzos lose efficacy, decay thinking, and tend to make the user more sick in the long-run. PRNs can create panic attacks. ZeeZee22 has constant anxiety. Sounds like a PRN wouldn't be much help here.

Antidepressants and antipsychotics continue to work, and even continue to work better, after roughly 4-6 weeks. Benzos tend to stop working after about that time. Your personal experience doesn't mean much here. Every drug has side effects.

You're free to have your own opinion, but if you're going to sit there and try to make a point, you're going to need to explain it if you want people to listen to you.

Agreed. I was taking seroquel and i think zyprexa at some point for anxiety because my dr suggested it. Seroquel made me sleep so long and zyprexa really dulled my brain function. I was so cloudy and couldn't function.

So then psychiatrist said that possible small dose of xana or klonopin would help and it had made such a huge difference in my life. I still have my add symptom control from vyvanse, I take 70mg in morning then 10mg adderall prn in the afternoon. A small benzo dose helps the tense and tweaked out feeling dissepate, at least for me. But you know everyone responds to medication differently :) good luck and keep us updated!!

I have realized that in fairly small doses, benzos continue to work over long periods of time. People who consistently increase their dosage are of course at higher risk. And actually taking benzos PRN in emergency situations only is a great way to get the most benefit out of your anxiolytic.

Antidepresssnts do continue to work over time, agreed, as do antipsychotics. But sometimes some patients might not be in favor of taking a daily drug (AAP or AD) compared to taking an anxiolytic as sparingly as possible
