I was recently prescribed 20mg Zyprexa and 300mg of Wellbutrin daily for anxiety and Major depressive disorder. Isn't this drug combination counter productive? From my research Zprexa, a antipsychotic, is a dopamine receptor antagonist, while Wellbutrin is a NDRI and increases dopamine in the sympathetic cleft. Just wondering if I'am getting the full effect of the Wellbutrin while on Zyprexa.

From a very basic level of understanding o the topic, yes the Zyprexa might counteract the Wellbutrin but there may be a reason for the combo, or the time of say dosage may have covered this issue.

Wellbutrin's effect on dopamine is extremely minimal. It has other effects on the brain so it might be fine.

I take the Zyprexa at night, but according to wikipedia it's half-life is 33 hours. I may switch to Seroquel which has a shorter half-life, and see how that goes.

Seroquel worked great for me for sleep (best sleep med ever) and aborting stimulants. I could also take it the previous evening and use amps the next day it it was fine, so its out of the system pretty quick. Bother was on Zyprexa and said it was shitty.

These antipsychotics are really nasty though apparently unless you really need them. My bro was on it for bipolar and manic episodes possibly caused by dopamine. Not sure why it would help major depressive disorder since it reduces you happy chems and technically makes you less happy, to put it really simply.

I just used it for sleep for a while, didnt seem to do much else and didnt make me less happy so not really sure...

I had Zprexa prescribed due to going to the ER after a 3 day long amp binge. They put me on 2mg IV antivan every 2 hours, of course that didn't put me to sleep, it just made me hallucinate and have a manic episode, which included brawling with 8 security guards. Got sent to the psychward, and they diagnosed me as bippolar manic with psychotic features and put me on lithium and Zprexa. Eventually I was rediagnosed with major depressive disorder, they kept me on 20mg of Zprexa because I complained of anxiety problems, they wouldn't give me any benzos.

In that case i think the anitipsychotic might be the correct medication type, but maybe Seroquel instead.

The only problem i see is that your episode was related to amp usage, so for some reason they kept you on the AS based on your reacton from the amps.
Unless you had issues before the amp story you mentioned. simply sounds like standard map psychosis and not requiring long term treatment.

Instead they should likely have recommended an SSRI instead. Anitipsychotic's do nothing for anxiety, just makes it worse sometimes.

Depression is also far better treated with an SSRI then an AS. An AS would in fact reduce Serotonin.
