Antipsychotics affecting penis and testicles

I will make this short, I suffered from cannabis psychosis October 2015 and I was sectioned into staying at a mental health unit. During this time I was administered an anti-psychotic because I was suffering from paranoid/delusional thoughts. The drug I was given was Invega sustenna, I took it until February 2016, 5 monthly injections over the duration.

Any ways I have been anti-psychotic free since February 2016, it is now November and I still have not recovered my sexual health. My penis and testicles have shrunk ever since the first injection, my penis is not as responsive with a huge decrease in sex drive. I must emphasise before I was sectioned to hospital I was extremely sexually active so this is possibly the worst thing that could have happened.

I have seen a urologist and had many blood tests and the result came back as low testosterone and high prolactin.

The reason for this thread is I was wondering if anyone had suffered sexual side affects from anti-psychotics and any other drugs even after discontinuing them?

For me it has been the most embarrassing situation in my life and made me suicidal at times.

Thanks people.

Hi invegaman. I've been on risperidone since last June following a series of psychotic episodes which was brought on by a number of incidents.

Although there has been no physical change in my genitalia, my sex drive has disappeared without trace, there is nothing that stimulates me in the slightest. I spoke to my psychiatrist about it but her message was for all intents 'do you want to be better or not. Take the pills'. I'm not happy with her response and will still Peak to my GP for their opinion too.

Hi Gazebbs,

Invega sustenna is like a new form of rispiridone, they are almost chemically identical. I'm not a Dr, the medication we were given were the worst offenders in regards to sexual affects. See if it's possible to change it to something else.

I'm assuming your still taking rispiridone?

also was it an injection or tablets?

I understand how frustrating it can be as a guy, to have no libido. Makes me feel subhuman it sucks. I'm hoping to hear recovery stories in this thread.

Saw palmetto supplement is good at balancing male hormones. Someone I know had similar issues after using a different prescribed medication. Just took the recommended dose twice a day. Not back to normal, but much improved.

From everything I read about this drug I am amazed that it continues to be prescribed except in the most extreme cases.:( The fact that people are given injections of it against their will is even more heinous).

I'm on tablets, not a huge dose as it's 2mg morning and evening but clearly enough to make me half a man. And you're quite right invegaman, that's exactly how it feels. I'm waiting for my wife to run out of patience...

Guys , I had this same problem was administered Invega for 8 months bastards , ruined my sex drive and sperm production testoterone etc , but go to youtube and check out a guy called Christopher Walker who has a program called testshock its inexpensive and can help you naturally increses your testoerone again once thedrug is stopped , excercise lose excess fat and have avocados olive oil and cononut oil is a good one , excecise well , weights nt too hard and then cook food in coconut oil , and see if u get boners , this has depresssed me a long time and having lost weight I am seeing slight improvement with Chris Walkers stuff so , have a look !!
