I got a prescription for "Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazol" (a.k.a. APO SULFATRIM) today. I am wondering if there are any reactions with this and E because I am planning on dropping this weekend and wanna make sure nothing will go wrong. Any help would be apreciated.
By the way, the antibiotic is for a sinus infection, if that matters...

Hey there,
First off I am no doctor but this is what I can tell you. I was once on an antibiotic for a sinus infection, and I rolled, and I was fine. I was also concerned w/ rolling, and consulted others like you are doing, and they said it was fine too. So I would say it should be ok, but then again maybe you should refrain from partying, there could be a chance. Good luck, and be safe.
Much luv,
Amola

trimthat foahkhah who???? damn i cant even pronounce that much less know anything about it, but i do know that MAOI's (anti-depressents) and E arent good at all, dont knw about antibiotics, but i dont think it should matter since antibiotics primarily focus on your immune system and not chemicals in your brain (i think), maybe you can find some answers at www.erowid.org
peace!!!

You are taking BACTRIM which consists of 2 very active components. There is an automatic danger combining CERTAIN antibiotics and E if these antibiotics (Zithromax, Biaxin, etc) are metabolized by the liver using the same enzyme pathway used by E (P450 cytochrome). When this happens, you could end up with VERY high or possibly lethal levels of E since the liver is unable to break down and metabolize the MDMA (think of the enzyme pathway as being temporarily blocked or occuppied).
This is a theoretical but real concern. There are no documented cases of E and antibiotic fatalities, although an HIV protease inhibitor (Ritonavir) has been linked to the death of a man in england who supposedly took 2.5 hits of E. He died of an overdose and autopsy revealed blood levels ten times what should have been expected given the dose. Ritonavir uses the P450 Cytochrome pathway.
Also, there are many studies showing that when two drugs using the P450 cytochrome pathway are taken together, the expected levels of the drugs vary.
That's the bad news

..THE GOOD NEWS is that Bactrim is not metabolized by the P450 cytochrome pathway. This means that you will probably not experience unusually high levels of E by combining the two. However, Bactrim is a powerful antibiotic that has caused sudden allergic reactions on its own including a few fatalities (very rare occurrences)...
The bottom line is that you will probably not have any problems combining the two, but no one can say for sure. You just might want to err on the side of caution and wait until you complete your 10 day course before you roll.
Besides, Bactrim can make you feel weird by itself and could interefere with having a good time. (I personally have ignored my own advice and combined E with "simpler" antibiotics such as amoxicillin or augmentin)
If you are taking any prescription drugs and are thinking about rolling, ask your pharmacist if the prescription drugs are metabolized by the P450 cytochrome pathway.
If the answer is yes, exercise caution and think about waiting until you are off the prescription drugs before you take E.
Hope this helps..

Never had any trouble doing this and I've done E while on Zithromax and a couple other Antibiotics.
Personally I've found E when sick is a good thing.
When you have an infection typically you get a fever as your body tries to kill it off. E speeds up your body and also raises your body temperature. So in a sense your helping your body kill the infection by helping your body stay warmer.
A couple of notes...
1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER... You should be doing this anyway because your sick and also because yer rollin so the combo should make it obvious to drink lots and lots of water. Drinking lots of water will also let you sweat more and I truly believe the best way to get well is to sweat it out of your system... but that's just from my experience.
2. Dress warm. Don't let yourself get too cold.
3. Taking Vitamin C wouldn't kill you either.

Thanks Jessica...that was sweet

And MzzzBond, I have also ignored my own advice and taken E with the "bad" antibiotics, including Zithromax (talk about a long half life, 50+ hours)...but i did it with a little fear and trepidation, taking halves at a time with no major consequences...When it comes to giving advice, I tend to be cautious by training and would rather live by the maxim "Do No Harm"...Maybe it's just a case of "Do as I SAY...NOT as I DO..."

Still, I thought it best to point out the POTENTIAL danger...No one ever got sick from deferring a roll

PLUR and SAFE rolling to all !!

Call it a hunch but pharmaceutical companies probably aren't going to invest $$$ in checking if their drug interacts with an illegal compound.
Serotonin's relationship to the immune system and e's negative impact on this system as a whole has been shown in a couple of studies, so recognize that in combining the two, you may be helping to [if albeit temporarily] make conditions more difficult for the antibiotic to kill off the organism, breed a new strain that is resistant to antibiotics, or weaken the relative effect of the antiobiotic as a whole.

I read that Flixotide asthma inhaler is cleared by the cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP3A4. And that care should be taken when co-administering known CYP3A4 inhibitors.
Does this relate to e ?
Thanks
Tanya

I thought I had read on the ecstasy.org site that e actually enhances immune system function...is it really bad for your liver to combine it with antibiotics? I take Monodox for a skin condition...I am planning on dropping one this week...If anyone has any input on this please let me know!
