For months now i have been suffering, unable to pin point the problems i was experiencing (it gets confusing when your on multiple medications)

So for anyone who has been on Anti-Psychotics, Anti Depressants or both for an extended period of time may be experiencing an inner restlessness which is only relieved by constant movement, generally in the knees for example: unable to sit still, pacing constantly, etc your probably experiencing Akathisia.

My psychiatrist confirmed that i in fact are experiencing Akathisia. Akathisia can be treated with Clonazepam (personally i think this is ideal cause they will relax you as any benzo would) Propranolol is also another option. So for anyone out there on anti-psychotics and starting to feel an inner restlessness you don't have to tolerate the symptoms go see your GP/Psychologist, the solution to your problem is relatively safe and inexpensive.

I wouldn't call daily clonazepam, "safe" over the long-term. I would try to adjust the dosage of your other medications and see if that helps before piling on more pills.

Cyc you are correct, you could also try different Anti-psychotics or Anti-depressants and see if that works. But the problem is when you have psychosis you really don't care, and if it's schizophrenia your never going to be cured, so what about quality of life? Clonazepam is gonna make you feel alot better than Propranalol.

I personally would rather die at an age when i can still enjoy myself and with some semblance of a mind, rather than be one of these 90 year old's who have dementia and cant go to the toilet on their own, i have done some work in the aged care industry, and in moments of clarity these old timers often say they just don't want to be around no more but their doctors, obsessed with keeping them alive "adjust the dosage" so they can continue to live tortured, undignified existences, rather passing on to "the great spirit in the sky"

"they shoot horses don't they?"

^Been on them for 7 years, never really had a problem until now, lowered the dosage of anti-psychotic and anti-depressant, increased the clonazepam dosage slightly and I'm fine.

just wanted to create an easily searchable BL service announcement :)

I have experienced akathisia and clonazepam ONLY made it worse, just a warning. Paradoxical reactions to benzodiazepines do occasionally happen.

I'd suggest going without anti-psychotics and anti-depressants to see if the sense of inner restlessness has subsided. Of course, discuss this option with your doctor before discontinuing your medications.

I've tried in the going without my medication in the past, I'm just not strong enough mentally to hold my mind together without the Anti-psychotics :( - not calling myself weak, just that those demons are stronger.....................

i could probably handle going off the anti-depressants as my main problem is negative symptoms which aren't really treatable (although i get relief from weed)

Clonazepam has been very friendly to me, basically gave me my life back
