So the premise to this article is that there are companies developing antibiotic-like drugs that would prevent an individual from getting the effects from addictive drugs. A very interesting concept, but I wouldn't go that route 8)

Anti-Drug Drugs Article

I don't know that this is the right place to post this, not normally my territory...

sounds like a load of bullshit
its not gonna happen, dont worry
"it would be great if we could make our kids immune to the effects of alcohol and hard drugs"
pfft.
it would be great if the puritan anti drug lobby could go fuck itself

Ever heard of Subutex/Suboxone ?

They block opiates having ny effect - whilst stopping any withdrawal.

Theres also a drug that stops you drinking - "Ant-abuse" or something. It makes you feel like shit if you drink alcohol.

^I like the idea of a personal choice in the matter. I'd like to try that Anti-drinking one, as a means to "de-condition" my self.

I am however opposed to anyone being given ANYTHING against there own will, regardless of age. History has showed the consequence of Fascist policies on human rights.

The trouble with Antabuse is that any alcohol, even not drunk can get you sick. I've known people in rehab who have gotten violently ill from rinsing with mouthwashes containing alcohol and even from spraying on cologne or perfume.

Naltrexone is another drug that stops opiate-abuse and is "supposed to" stop alcohol craving. Campral is supposed to be an anti-craving drug for alcohol as well.

These aren't new. ( Neither is the article or discussion about it on BL. If the article was new, it'd belong in DiTM. :) )

The problem with these is that some of the drugs, notably opiates, have legal applications. Also, at least with the cocaine vaccine, one could "overpower" the vaccine(antibodies) by taking a larger doses. Oh, and people tend to switch substances once whatever they're using doesn't do the trick anymore.

Neat idea, but not very practical.

Definitely not practical. If somebody gave me a shot that made coke stop doing the trick (hypothetically of course, I don't really like coke), I'd probably start doing meth. If somebody wants to get high, they're going to do it one way or another, and when you inhibit the effects of normal drugs, people start doing even crazier shit like inhalants, high doses of OTC drugs, or lots and lots of alcohol. The only way to stop addiction is reflection. You have to see how much what you're doing is hurting you. I'm a firm believer in ibogaine treatment. There's a lot of neat stuff on the subject.:)

Ibogaine, 2C-E, LSD.

Piracetam has shown to reduce alcoholic withdrawal symptoms.
