You can find the full article here: http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2012/01/17/1119598109

Just including the link because although it's linked on the site you linked to, their link is broken unless you manually copy + paste the URL.

Interesting, though I think the study oversimplifies things and there is likely a lot more going on than just the reduction of filters in the brain.

The last phrase of the abstract is particularly relevant:

These results strongly imply that the subjective effects of psychedelic drugs are caused by decreased activity and connectivity in the brain's key connector hubs, enabling a state of unconstrained cognition.

It is in fact an over simplification, and the authors should not have written that. Psilocibyn is not "psychedelic drugs", but rather one among many and within several classes of "psychedelic drugs". But nonetheless the idea of "unconstrained cognition" is something I can relate to, and does not surprise me the least.

I think they wrote that because you see similarities between the effects of psychedelic drugs that maybe inhibit the same certain parts of the brain in the same way.
It still was quite ignorant to write that without any explanation but at least it shows research is being done.

@JesusGreen
Thanks for posting the full article and in linking me to an interesting site.

I think it does over simplify things but not everyone is a biochemist and they want to engage a range of audiences. I'm sure a scientist in the field has access to information they need and not relying on reading articles on this site. I think the post is more a reminder to people that psychedelic drugs are being studied in consideration of how they can be used in society which is a step forward regarding liberal freedom.
