An idea that might get you a clean grinder and some hash...

So i've been researching the qwiso hash making method and i read that isopropyl alcohol is good for cleaning pieces. i just so happened to be sitting with a friend of mine while he was scavenging for keif in his grinder... that's when i got this idea...

would it be possible to soak your grinder in the alcohol, drain it, strain it, dry the iso, and harvest a wee bit o' hash? you could probably even skip the straining part considering there's barely any plant material...

just an idea i had

yep, completely possible. I've done this a few times before and it's really simple and works great. Just like you said, soak in alcohol, maybe scrub some of the residue off of the grinder and then just evaporate the alcohol, all there is to it.

What does this leave behind, pure extract? So even the kief itself is extracted of its cannabinoids?

On the grinder there are areas of compressed kief stuck to the sides and in other hard to reach places. This just comes from use and appears as black spots/areas on the grinder. When you soak it in alcohol the compressed kief/hash comes off into the alcohol and when evaporated, pure compounded kief is left behind that you can scrape, ball up and smoke. It's a great way to catch a high when you're out of mary and it only takes about an hour from start to finish.

The same process can also be used with old stems. Shake them up in a bottle filled with alcohol until it looks fairly green in color then filter out and evaporate.

What would you use as a solvent? The drying process only takes an hour? I may try this tomorrow if this is true. I've got a good amount of kief saved up at this point at the bottom of my grinder and a whole lotta buildup on the many screens.

All you need is otc isopropyl alcohol for the solvent, the higher the alcohol percentage the better(as this will speed up the drying process). I use a pyrex dish for everything and a hairdryer to evaporate the alcohol after I've 'cleaned' my grinder and removed it. Drying depends on how much solvent you use and how hot your blowdryer is. More surface area helps speed up the process too.

standard ISO evaporation precaution: try not to set yourself on fire.

otherwise, yeah . . def. works.

my friend just used a tooth brush to break up the keif stuck on the sides. made him a nice little pile we tossed in a blunt

Thanks, I will give this a shot.
