Am I right or wrong in thinking this?

That it is generally safer to combine an upper and a downer than it is to combine an upper with another upper or a downer with another downer?
I am basing this on personal experience and what I have learned from wikipeida. Is this something that is always situational or is it safe to use this as a general rule?
Also I am not counting things that may be cut, just mixing drugs that you can be sure of what is in them.
I am trying to settle a dispute here, where a buddy of mine is convinced that it is much safer to take two different kinds of downers or uppers instead of mixing an upper with a downer.

From what ive gathered and my experience, yes its much safer

well it depends on the uppers and downers and the doses of each. The danger in combining uppers and downers are that the upper will keep you alert and awake and you won't notice the typical overdose signs if you took too much of the downer.

as a general rule, be careful about your combinations either way, if done in moderation then both combinations can be relatively safe.

It completely depends on the individual situation, there's no such thing as a generalised safe combo, in the same way as there isn't a generalised dangerous combo (unless you're talking about severe interactions, ie. serotonin syndrome).

im not an expert but from what ive read downer + downer mutliplys exponentially the effects of things liek respritory depression. for example say you take some opiates + alcohol. a safe dose of either could become fatal when combined when neither would be harmful at all seperately... wheras upper + downer would only cause you to OD if you admind what would amount to an overdose of one of the substances but just did not realize it. thers a term for what they call the effect of the downer + downer that i cant remember right now, but its basically what leads to most drug related deaths anymore

so in short, id think ur better off to mix up+down then down+down for sure.. cant speak too much on uppers+uppers coz i dont get into those too much nd never really read much about them

Generally speaking, taking an upper with a downer is safer than taking an upper with another upper, or a downer with another downer.

There are some situations where its more dangerous, but those situations are usually do to specific adverse drug reactions between the specific drugs in question.

We can't give you a 100% sure answer because your question is too vague. If you were to elaborate your question to include the drugs in question...then we would be able to give a more solid answer.

I think why this combination is usually looked down upon, at least when it comes to speed balling, is that people often end up using a lot more heroin than usual to counter the cocaine. The same of course could be said of other combinations, that one just came to mind.

^ Well, given that's the only true "speedball" - that makes perfect sense. Cocaine and Heroin prepped in the same shot for injection.

Anyhow, as others have noted, the masking effect is the inherent danger in the upper / downer combo. Combining two of the same is just asking for complications arising from "too much."
