I always seem to get really weird dry hair the day after rolling, and occasionally my skin goes dry/red, though this symptom appears to be more common following cocaine, though who knows what's actually in that.
I know when you get drug tested they often take samples of your hair, so I was wondering if there is a possible connection here...:sus:

It's not just me imagining it either, alot of other people have commented...

In my experience, I've had my lips get really chapped--- but thats really it for dryness.

Maybe you're just generally dehydrated?

Hair follicles and skin pores release an oily substance called sebum which lines/protects the skin and hair, giving it softness and shine. It's composed of fat, keratin, dead skin cells, and sweat. Without enough body fluid, its release drops, leading to dry skin and hair.

So yeah, short answer is: dehydration. All the body heat caused by rolling will dry you out.

Does having a dry mouth after taking mdma mean you are dehydrated as well? I always seem to get a seriously dry mouth after mdma and even more-so with whatever is actually my 'cocaine', and from small doses(200 mg), and this comes on within an hour or so off taking it. This makes me think the substance in the cocaine is directly making me dehydrated...

I always try to stay well hydrated during rolling, was only walking last time as well, and drank atleast a ltr of water in 3 hours I reckon. And even the next day when I drunk loads of water my hair still remains dry looking.

Yeh I get really bad chapped lips but that's only sometimes. I once took Accutane which is some medication to fight skin Acne, and that really dried out your skin and the main side effect was constant heavily dried lips, as well as dry skin and supposedly dry hair. Maybe my body remembers having constant dry lips, so over-compensates or something now. I never used to get really dry lips before the medication and get them now every now and again for no apparent reason (besides from after taking drugs) so maybe this all has something to do with it...

The parasympathetic nervous system (passive, like when you are at rest) is responsible for salivation. The sympathetic nervous system (active, like when you are walking/running) is responsible for reducing salivary flow. So for example, if you engage in a lot of exercise you are more likely to get dry mouth because while you are moving your body needs your muscles to be more active as opposed to your digestive system, so it reduces saliva. Resting periods are when you are most likely going to eat, so saliva flow increases (parasympathetic). This is the reason why a lot of health practitioners recommend you don't eat on the go, or eat and run - because while you are in an active state, your body shifts priority away from digestion, and you won't benefit as much from what you ate.

Drugs like cocaine suppress the parasympathetic nervous system and stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, putting you into an active state, even if you aren't moving. Think about how cocaine makes you more active and wanting to do shit. Same concept. Saliva stops flowing and you get dry mouth.

If you have a history of anxiety, ADHD, or any other hyperactive states, then you will be more susceptible to dry mouth because your sympathetic nervous system is already over-stimulated.

I'm probably missing some info but this is what I can recall off the top of my head.

Note that the above explanation applies to while you are ON certain drugs. The dryness you're talking about after MDMA is simple dehydration.

^^Thanks alot Foreigner, I am probably over-stating the dryness effects from MDMA (and have sensitive skin/hair -the barber thinned it too much), and you can't argue with the science so.... that's that.
, lol.

I usually only get dry skin or lips if im rolling at a rave, probably from all the dancing/sweat.
Not so bad if i was rolling in a non party setting such as in nature, or a house. Stuff other then raves
