Opioids Allergic reaction from ethylmorphine

I took 150mg ethylmorphine combined with 150mg codeine in pills called tussipax available in france, thinking that is what i needed as my average dose for codeine was 400mg. I had an extreme reaction (allergic to the best of my knowledge). I was scratching like crazy and had very low blood pressure (didnt measure it but everything went white when i got up and when i was standing i felt faint), I also felt very ill, and had to lie down on the pavement to stop myself from puking. does anyone know why I had such an extreme reaction? Any similar experiencs?
 
Nobodies had this or has ANYTHING to say about it? just like the other, im dying to know, let it drop after this (I know other peoples posts are as important as mine BTW im not selfish, just... curious).
 
my first thought is that you experienced a large histamine release because codeine tends to do that, and ethylmorphine is a close relative of codeine. many people experience this side effect, and although it is physiologically similar to an allergic reaction i dont think it is.

did you have any trouble breathing? hives? the low blood pressure is a more extreme symptom and could point to anaphylaxis.

remember that ethylmorphine is similar to codeine, but is stronger. you may have accidentally overdone it and got the histamine release from too much. or perhaps you have an actually allergy-if this is the case you may have a much stronger reaction next time (which could be fatal). if you insist on trying it again i would suggest having an epi-pen and a friend near by.
 
well, first of all, thank you very very much for the reply. second, i thought that the classification of an "allergic reaction" was the release of H1 (histamine) from mast cells as a protective measure (of the body), brought on by foreign matter (dont get me wrong, not trying to be a dickhead). I always thought ethylmorphine was weaker. One more question, is (or in this case im quite sure it is, so maybe replace is with when) the ethanol (is) taken off the morphine (de-ethylation) by an enzyme (and) does the ethanol somehow potentiate the morphine/remaining ethylmorphine? I didnt think that there was a sufficient amount of ethanol to potentiate, but I could very well be wrong. But if this is the case wouldnt codeine (methylmorphine) be toxic due to the methanol resulting from the de-methylation? Someone please try to explain this.
 
oh, yes and what would you suggest as a dose (codeine and ethylcodeine combined in tussipax)?
 
you have obviously been reading, but lack full understanding.

H1 is a histamine receptor,a surface protein that specifically binds histamine and transduces the signal into the cell to change its function.

degranulation can be caused by different things. look up "type 1 hypersensitivity reaction" to read about histamine release via IgE crosslinking on mast cells (allergy). i believe the common side effect of histamine release in opiates is not mediated by immunoglobulins, but by direct effects on mast cells through mu receptors. but, like i said the sudden drop in pressure hints and anaphylaxis.

yes, codeine and diethylmorphine are degraded to morphine via enzymes (p450). no, diethymorphine--> morphine does not produce ethanol as a byproduct.

take de-mythylation as an example: there is no free methanol that comes from this reaction, the methyl group is transferred to some other molecule by an enzyme. somebody else could probably give you the specifics on the metabolism of this particular drug, but to learn about transmethylation reactions in general look at SAM.

Thanks for explaining, I read alot and am very interested, but in many cases books, tv, and the internet can never explain as well as a person ( though I wish they could)
