You're probably a guy that would know, but I'd always thought that you only absorbed nutrients from your small intestines and that the large intestines was just about water recovery? Not being a pedant, I'm just interested. I've been trying to figure out protein absorption rates for a while. Studies show absorption rates of various proteins in g/Hour. according to wiki "it takes 2.5 to 3 hours after a meal for 50% of stomach contents to empty into the intestines and total emptying of the stomach takes 4 to 5 hours. Subsequently, 50% emptying of the small intestine takes 2.5 to 3 hours. Finally, transit through the colon takes 30 to 40 hours."

So how far through the system can we absorb nutrients? If I knew that, I should be able to work out the maximum useful amount to have in one sitting.

I could be mistaken but although the primary job of the large bowel is to absorb water and salt, it also absorbs nutrients and other stuff too (http://digestive-system.emedtv.com/...ristat.com/coloncleansing/colonfunction.aspx). I think people who have ileostomies need to eat a bit more. I've had to up my water and salt intake, but I haven't really noticed any nutrients missing yet really. Maybe that's why plugging works?

I don't know what the maximum useful amount of protein is, or whether knowing digestion time would be useful to you, because we're all different. I'm sure we'd both die if we ate 10,000 cals of protein a day, but Ronnie Coleman needs it.

@ MSB: I'm not convinced about the conversion to fat being quick enough [edit] ... visual evidence here supports the opposite

I need to do some more reading on that. nerdboy shits 5 times a day. lawl. no joke.

5 seconds and counting until I get a text that says, 'can you stop talking about me on the internet and revealing my toilet habits.'

this post will possibly get a major edit later on ;p

[edit]
i thought that's how atkins functioned mainly also. doesn't the premise of that rest on allowing pretty much excessive amounts of protein, because it can't be quickly converted ... then burning your body fat for energy which equals weight loss, but your muscles are maintained from the high consumption of protein as well
^^
eh, ignore that, it sounds like bollocks.

I think, logically speaking, if you didn't absorb calories and convert them to fat via eating protein, then pro body builders would only eat protein all year round and stay down around 1% body fat - whilst being fucking massive?

if you wanna be all immature, lets have it, your face is gay with your fucking old school faggoty floral patterned poncey carpet, you something....... whatever
shut your face you toned hunk of a man:p. lol I'm just a tad jealous I suppose as I'm a lazy out of shape pisshead bastard. but still, fitness for the sake of fitness is kinda ghey

Urban that peptopro stuff sounds good might invest in some during the week. I presume your rating it?

I feel that good today it seems a shame to waste it getting wrecked so I'm off it this weekend just having a couple cans in the house watching the footy with mate, got heaps of decent munch for later on aswell.

The running is making me feel fresh as fuck. Been back to up at 7am, 8am 3mile run, then hit the exercise. Going back to gym monday but going to keep up the run first thing, refreshing as fuck.

yeah, but no, but yeah.

I argued EXACTLY the same thing, but it doesn't work this way.

will reply 'properly' when I've finished doing housewifery [sp?] chores that 'The Greer' would no doubt frown upon <3

ABSOLUTELY.

After the 2 mile stretch, I cant begin to tell you how good it makes me feel. It's a lovely, lovely, natural buzz. Improves almost every aspect of my day.

:)

some people see it as a daunting task "oh sod this running its so much effort blah blah..." but once you get into it, its kinda like the body wants too do it, push it , and reep the awards, even though its undergoing stress etc, so beneficial. been back on the cardio recently n i like it a lot. not much compared to what i used to, cant be assed with long runs, im more into sporadic sharp intense bursts that leave me heaving and fucked for a few mins, feel buzzing after that. and apparently its just as good, less time, etc. just finding the inspiration for doing it. which the aspect of becoming a fat bastard soon gets me back on it, especially after eating a lot. its like my body is like "right, fuck this, you've over eaten, your gonna burn it off"
but for some reason ive been smoking more cigs... not exactly ideal

Week 4 Run five mins, walk two mins. Repeat four times. Do three times a week.

Week 5 Run eight mins, walk two mins. Repeat three times. Do three times a week.

Cornish that is what we were going on about before, split interval training, tricks your body into thinking it's getting a rest.

Botfly why don't you go read another thread? 8)
