I am a 31 year old living male. I am basically a weekend abuser of chemicals. I want to change my life, I want to exercise, I want to be happy. Can anyone tell me the secret to acheive all these things? How can I get what I want? I'm on two antidepressants and I just feel like I can't stop the viscious cycle.

It seems every single time I am coming down I have these moments of clarity and wanting to just walk away and let go. I just don't know how to stop the subconcious and all the habits I've created. When I wake up tomorrow I will feel like shit again, tired and depressed, till the next hit. What do you guys say?

start slow, don't get frustrated by failure, and try everyday to be a better, healthier person.

being healthy isn't something you suddenly do, its a lifelong process.

I am so consumed with compulsion, drugs, cigs, eating, it's just all out of control really. I can't seem to exercise, I was doing well on my diet but got off track. Do people ever really change or is that just bullshit? I just wonder .

^ This, times 1000.

If you want a behavioural change to stick, make it gradual, make it incremental, and make it daily. And whatever you do, don't break the chain. Zero days off. You don't have to work to exhaustion every time, and it's best to change things up often, but until you feel weird when you don't work out every day, don't stop. And remember to forgive yourself too-- you will slip up, you will backslide, and that's okay.

Remember too that diet is at least as important as activity. And dietary changes follow the exact same rules as any other change.

Can I truly wake myself up from this dream? I feel like I'm in a nightmare and I need to call Tech Support! You know? I't s liike Vanilla SKy.

It's indeed possible. I'm in a similar position to yourself but I've been getting better taking less chemicals and as others said making small incremental steps towards getting things done! You really do need to persist and not allow yourself to skip days of change. One day skipped makes me feel shit enough to start relapsing to my old way of living. You need to try at this a little while before you see that you are making progress and then choosing to change becomes easier as an option. I also suggest looking into what's important in life. Find peace in your own philosophy.

OP if you're wanting practical advice I'll keep the thread here, however if you're after support I can move this over to the Dark Side.

As S_L said, there's no secret and certainly no quick fix. Everything you put into your body will affect you in either positive or negative ways. Moving and strengthening your body can help it work better too.

We make a billion choices every day as to how we treat our bodies. If yours is not behaving the way you want, start making some different choices. I guarantee you will notice a difference. :)

Hey buddy, if you wan to change then frankly, fucking change...its all up to you, no one here is going to make you change. Do you want to feel shit for the rest of your life, you wanna do drugs for the rest of your life, yes or no? if yes, thencontinue like this, dont change and youl remain the same. Just do w/e you want for your self bro, if you wanna feel good, do things that make you feel good, clearly thats not drugs, binge eating and w/e else u do.

i aint being mean or anything here...its just all your choice man..for me persdonally i do drugs but iam so good at controlling my usage..i do coke one weekend for example then oxycodone the next, or both in one weekend, but i neevr do more thsn once a weekend. Drugs are amazing in my opinion, they are however you make em be..do em everyday and they will bring you hell, use em resonsible and you can enjoy life and drugs and its just fucking amazing. no tolerance no side effects no NOTHINGA. i love drugs and working out, eating healthy, just do w/e you want bro it ur life. for me i do some of everything so i can have the most fun.

Something important fitness-wise is to experiment around with different sports... rock climbing, swimming, mountain biking, long boarding, etc.. If you can find something that you love to do, and that you are able to fit into your schedule regularly you will do it simply because you love it, and the fitness benefit is just an added bonus.

With alcohol, cigarettes, and eating it is best to slowly cut back, and restrain yourself sometimes even though you want to do it. I think the electric cigs are also a pretty cool thing for people who want to change, but have trouble doing so. With alcohol try not drinking every second or third night if you drink every day. The thing that I probably will never cut back on is eating. I love to cook, and I love good food. I do a shit load of mountain biking, so I burn off everything I eat. It does make a huge difference what you are eating..people aren't lying when they say a balanced diet with good carbs, fats, proteins, and lots of different colors of fruits and vegetables will make you feel a lot better.

I am of the opinion that much of the depression in the western world stems from people not living more like we would in nature. Many people have gotten so far away from how we should be. The culture we live in says what is good, and what we should do to be healthy and happy, but often times fucks us by not giving us enough time to do it. Sometimes it is near impossible to find the time, but if you can try to eat better (you don't need a ton of meat every day for instance), and just get out and MOVE you will feel better.

I used to love to play basketball. I don't really have the money for a gym though. I guess there is no secret, true words of wisdom.

^ Who said you need to have money for a gym membership to play basketball? Go outside with a ball of any kind, imagine a dot on your garage or the side of your house [away from windows ;)], and play some damn basket ball. :P

I don't have a gym membership, but I do have a bicycle and am biding my time until the weather is better to ride. However, being in a city where bicycles possibly outnumber cars, has seriously given me the motivation and incentive to invest in some rain gear for my rides.

Exercise doesn't have to cost money, and there should be no monthly cost except calories.

Do you live in China? It does cost money to get in shape, organic foods are higher in price, and also worse on your teeth. I am not gonna be a retard who imagines a dot on my garage, get a grip!

Don't piss and shit on your own parade. It was a joke. Point being, if you love it, just do it. Find a nearby playground with some hoops and go do it.

It doesn't have to cost anything to get in shape. Start with this. Then go from there.

Organic food only costs more than heavily processed garbage food, and in a case like that, quality >>> quantity. Plus, if you keep an eye out, you can catch stuff on sale. But, the key here, is that you need to take the first step. It's always the hardest.

stop buying drugs. use money on gym membership or even better at some boxing/kickboxing/martial art class. having someone yell at you is pretty motivating, and motivation is the hardest part when starting out.

practise some self control and stop making new threads on bluelight.
