Hey y'all,

If you go to a pain clinic in TN, be warned. Random pill counts and (possibly) drug tests are now required as of 9/1/13. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up. I couldn't act too interested, but my pain doc seemed to think it is actually just pill counts (contradicting the print-out someone at the clinic had made). So, behave or prepare to be booted!

I will try to get the DT part clarified (under the guise of, "Should I budget for another DT a month?" and let y'all know)...

Peace&Love,

Most places were... but it was the clinics' policy. Now, my clinic says the count is REQUIRED and the patients picked randomly by the state. I have no problem with a DT scheduled once a month. But paying for another one/being unable to slip even once without fear.. BS.

Its always been like this. They are supposed to be required but the majority of the clinics aren't strict about it

Well, this is lame. Sorry for the old news y'all. When I arrived at my pain clinic, a flyer was in the door window, at the check-in window, the waiting room, in the DT bathroom, and in the exam room... it was all CAPS and read (something close to, and I'll spare y'all the all CAPS, haha):
"Effective September 1st, 2013, pain patients will be required to submit to random pill counts and drug tests. The patients picked will be completely random and we have no control over who is picked. This is now required by the state and we have no control over it. Failure to comply will result in discharge from the clinic. If we are unable to reach you, you will be discharged from the clinic. Make sure your contact info is up to date."

My pain doc and I (well, she's a nurse practitioner) have always gotten along well. We joke about her being a Columbian drug lord thanks to the media's spin. She's cool and likes me as I legitimately need meds and am respectful and polite. So, I casually asked her about the flyer (I don't care about the pill count thing, I think it's good actually...) and the drug testing as my family takes me out of town for funerals sometimes (and ironically, I'm always out of meds for some reason... it blows). She said to just take my pills to a pharmacy and that she didn't think the drug testing was required actually. The clinic tests everyone with a lab test once a month already.

Anyways, so that's why this has me so confused. The clinic makes it sound like the patients picked will come from the state. And, the nurse practitioner didn't think the drug test was actually part of it.

Can you go to anywhere and get a NIDA-5 test to fulfill the requirement? A DOT test? I don't drive, so getting to my clinic is tough enough once a month already. This is just confusing to me... They want to stop diversion?... A simple pill count is free and enough...

Start with walk-in or urgent care clinics. You can call them and find out if they have that service.
This way if and when you are required to do this, you will have a place in mind.
