Hello members.

<I> was addicted to heroin (smoked) from 1998 to 2004. In 2004 <I> requested professional help at a specialized center where he entered into a maintenance program with methadone with a dialy dose of 140 mg. Since 2004 <I> was going to the medical center every Monday to collect seven doses for a week. Now <I> has decided to request the gradual withdrawal. From 140 mg. to 60 mg. the center decrease 10 mg. every two weeks. From 60 mg. to 15-10 mg. the doctor decrease 2'5 mg. every two weeks and from 15-10 mg. to the total withdrawal medical center decrease 1 mg. every two weeks. It means a long time from the initial dose to the total withdrawal. And although they do gradually withdrawal symptoms will be presented (<I> has seen it in otherwho were in retreat).

The help-drugs <I> can get to ease the withdraw are clonidine (in 0'150 mg. oral pills), loperamide (in 2 mg. caps), Valium 10, Xanax 2 mg., lormetazepam 2 mg., OTC analgesics and muscle relaxants such as cyclobenzaprine (in 10 mg. caps) or tizanidine in 4 mg. pills (tizanidine is alfa2-adrenergic agonist as clonidine) <I> also can get OTC hypnotic (doxylamine 25 mg. pills) and OTC anxiolytic which is hidroxizine.

How do you recommend <I> use the help-drugs in the offset of methadone?

Second, what dose are you at now? You described the taper, but I didn't notice you actually mentioning what dose you we're currently taking.

And lastly, hydroxyzine OTC? You must be in the UK. Lucky bastard.

I used the SWIM form because I thought that was the norm forum. I have no problem saying I am SWIM or edit the post.
I am from the south of Spain (Seville) and hidroxizine is called Atarax and there are containers with 25 and 50 pills of 25 mg. hidroxizine dihidrocloride. Theoretically requires prescription but I always get it without a prescription. I always buy the pack of 50 pills costing me three euros. Each tablet contains 25 mg. of hidroxizine and this grooving to divide it into two doses of 12'5 mg.
 
Hey adicted and welcome to BL and congratulations on makeing the descion to break free from the methacuffs.=D

Its a little uncomfortable but absolutely worth it.

IMO opinion you have a great set of meds lined up to help you out, but you may want to talk with a health care provider about adding in nerontin or lyrica. I feal that these can be some of the strongest medications we can employ.

I love the slow taper.. in fact this is one of the best professional tappers I have seen posted, it even seems a little to slow at the end.

When we think of gerring through this we often have a tendancy top focus on the acute withdrawls cause they can be so intimidating and severe.. nit for many people this turms out to be the "easy" part in the long run. So since you seem to have a taper to think about and plan for the future you may want to create a plan for a few more things your are likeliy to face. I think that being able to recognize and already have a plan in place to deal with what we will likwly face both decreases the negative we exspirence and increases the chances of sucsess.

I feal that forming a recovery plan for at least four areas can help out significantly.

1) The acutes like you already are doing
2)The PAWS
3) The addiction
4) The roots to the addiction, or what was the root of the unhappiness that motivated such addiction causing drug use in the begining.

My current dose of methadone is 140 mg.

I had heard of Lyrica in detox of benzos but did not know that was also used in opioid detox.

I have prescribed Valium 10 mg., lormetazepam 2 mg., Etumina (clotiapine freebase 40 mg. pills) and Quentiax (quetiapine 100 mg. pills).

Besides I can get clonidine, loperamide, cyclobenzaprine, tizanidine, hidroxizine and doxylamine in the pharmacy without prescription and Trankimazin 2 mg. (alprazolam of Pfizer, equals Xanax) in the street.

You can do I explain the best way to use these aids in the removal of methadone?
