Overtime I've come to realize I have an addiction to smoking heroin that goes deeper than the dope. I quit h a week ago after using it to avoid subutex withdrawal. I've been going strong and trying to use cigarettes and weed to overcome this weird period but I have this insatiable urge to smoke. Id even smoke the subutex when it comes down to it. So please tell me if you've ever had a smoking addiction, how did you personally break it and any personal experience with post smoking heroin would be amazing thanks.

hi original toker, welcome to The Dark Side:D

I've never had an issue with heroin, but I can relate in some way to the strong psychological connections that can be formed with the ritual of specific ROAs.

I've had success in the past using replacement therapies just like you are using Subutex, at least this way you can try and separate the chemical addiction from the deep psychological triggers you have established although it is my understanding that the 2 do cross over. Visual triggers have been shown to trigger brain activity similar to injesting the drug, I know this has been researched with cocaine at least.

I don't have any specific advice, purge you environment of things you associate with that behaviour and find constructive things to keep you busy and motivated. I assume you have professional support as you have been prescribed the subutex, many seem to get a great deal from NA and similar, I've gained more from 1 to 1 support from drug councilors, I'm sure others will have more advice.

Best wishes, it sounds like you're on the right track:)

^That is great advice and I have nothing to add to it but I did want to say that I'm glad you posted and I hope this thread can be one tool in your varied strategies for quitting. Breaking pleasurable habits--even when you know the habit is really bad for you--is incredibly difficult. The reward of breaking free of a destructive pattern/habit is worth it.

i live in CA and smoked tar for years.
surprised my lungs still function.
since you're so early in recovery, replace the opiates with weed and cigs u can quit later.
thats what i did and it worked.
but be hardcore about it,NO MORE OPIATES.write it on a wall if necessary.
they have legalized weed for medical reasons in CA,you can get it legit for anxiety.

you're so used to smoking off foil(right?),that u wanna put a big mac on there?
changing habits.
new impulses.
maybe even move to a different city or state if u have the means and start a new.

chasing the dragon has lead many to the needle.
this would b the worst possible outcome.
be careful.

much love.
