Hi

So after the doc put me on Citalopram which was unsecssefull in treating my anxeity and deppersion he then put me on Mirtazapine which also had no effect he then put me on propanol ( a beta blocker ) with the idea of relaxing me but that didn't work either. So he has now put me on Clomipramine 10 mg capsules. My question is does anybody else know anything about this medication ( looked on google - Not that helpful )

So does any one have anything they can say about it stories / experinces ?

Thanks Guys as alway any info is appriciated.

Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that is well established as a treatment for depression, and which some studies have found to be effective for treating anxiety too (eg recent study with rats, one with dogs, and one with humans) As a TCA it can have some side effects that some people find difficult - dry mouth, drowsiness, difficulty urinating, blurred vision (anticholinergic side effects) and postural hypotension (your blood pressure dropping when you stand up making you feel dizzy - antiadrenergic side effect) but which are dose-dependent and tend to ease with time. I imagine you have been started on a low dose so hopefully these shouldn't be an issue, but speak to your doctor if they are. It can be dangerous in overdose, so be very careful not to take too many!

It is just as effective as the other classes of antidepressants but tends to be second or third line due to the potential side effects and danger in overdose.

As with all antidepressants you need to give it a good month to assess if it is having an impact. Often people who don't respond to one class of antidepressants do respond to another, so hopefully it will work for you :)
