about to start methadone need advice

ok i posted a thread a few months ago on here about my heroin problem and wanting to quit, but i couldnt find it so im making a new one.

like i had a pretty big habit, but ive kicked down a lot. i am doing about 400-500$ a day now instead of 800-1000$. I wanted to get into a clinic, but the waiting list was ridiculous and I called them every day and they wouldnt even return my calls. So finally I just bought some methadone a few weeks ago and theyve been sitting on my dresser.

So like how am I supposed to start taking these things? like how much should i take? what happens if i shoot dope after i take it? do i have to be sick before i take it? like my only experience with the stuff was when i didnt have a habit i took 30 milligrams and i felt slightly buzzed.

well im planning to start either today or tomorrow, but ive been saying that almost every day so who knows really. ill keep u guys updated thanks in advance!

I would wait til you're feeling a bit crappy and then start off with 20-30 mgs. I think the biggest mistake people make when first starting a methadone schedule is they start off too high (60-80 mgs). My friend had a habit similar to yours and he said 40 mgs made him pass out. For like 3 days lol. Just remember it takes about 2 hours to kick in, but if you're in withdrawals, you should feel a bit of relief in about an hour. Don't keep popping them just because they're not as quick-acting as full agonist opiates. If you can maintain at 20-30 mgs, keep doing that once a day until you can get into a clinic and tell them what you've been doing (ie H then self-medicating with Methadone), they'll either recommend you use the Methadone a bit longer then switch to suboxone, or switch to suboxone right away. Keep us posted.

How did you afford an $800 a day habit if you dont mind me asking? $800 a day x 30 days is $24,000 a month. That is a sick habit & I know theres people out there that do more. Just wondering how someone would afford a habit like that.

first off, thats a horrible idea. us as addicts have this belief that we know everything about taking drugs, but really it isnt the case. i myself went on a methadone maintenance program almost 2 years ago after getting myself into a Horribly scary Oxycontin addiction. i went from being able to take one 80mg and be high all day catching nods, to getting stabbed - leading to a bone infection, and due to the pain, was prescribed high amounts of oxycontin and since im on a drug plan, wether it was 20 20mg tabs, or 160 80mg tabs, the cost was only $2. after about 6months of doing opiates everyday all day and my tollerance going through the roof, i went to my doctor and spilled the beans. i told him i was terribly addicted to the oxycontin, that id been taking 10x more than i was supposed to n that i was snorting them. i told him i was on a waiting list for methadone treatment which was true and he had mercy on me and wrote me a script for the ammount that i was actually taking (Until i got on the juice), well, this jus made it worse, cus now i was getting 160 80's for $2 twice a month, id wakeup n wouldnt be able to move whatsoever before i put 6 80's in my nose, but i finally got on the methadone n it saved my life. if your on a list, id suggest talkin to ur doctor about ur heroin use n tell him that u dont want to do dope n that ur on a waiting list for mmt, and see if he will write you a script to hold u off until u get on the program. good luck

Whats your motivation for wanting to stop Heroin? Got any plans for when your of the H? You really don't sound like your ready to quit. Not trying to put you down. But there's more to quiting H then getting on Methadone.

It's not clear to you want to use methadone to come down from heroine, in this case there is 21 day program to get rid of heroine and methadone as well, so to get clean.

Do you want to switch to methadone for long time? I would have to tell you a lot regarding this...

You said you will try it 'tomorrow'. So what happened?

Methadone can be very dangerous, it's good that you keep posting about your experience and get advices that you need.
