Kratom Detox - polydrug experiments during taper - opiates/stims/vitamins etc

EDIT: Scroll to page 2 for the real beginning of the diary. I intend to tidy this OP up as I go but bear with me ;)

Hi guys, just read page one, and then read the post above me, and am compelled to say hi, and some other stuff ;)

I'm about to do a kratom detox and want to diary/blog my experiences and get some support and feedback while I do it. Get that mutual thing going so we can all learn from it etc... these websites have always been invaluable to me, so it's time I gave something back I guess.

I first used kratom recreationally and randomly, not really knowing what it was exactly..., but then some years later I started using kratom regularly after I discovered how it improved my mood and gave me some perspective on a week when I was feeling kind of suicidal. I have been suffering from some strange chronic social anxiety and general anxiety and subsequent depression for about 3 or 4 years now. Kratom kind of saved my life. Then I moved to daily use after a very difficult failure in my life - so I was using to cope and come to terms with this setback. It was equally helpful during that time, and in the end I got very productive and got a handle on my anxiety etc for quite a while, but it's been over a year of daily use now and it's time to "take back control"... I also have had a recent bout of depression and unproductivity, so I feel that the kratom has stopped working and served it's purpose, a stage that any mental health medication would get to over time. I noticed a tolerance increase trend. I also started eyeing up stronger opiates, as well as using the kratom extracts and enhanced varieties, some of which have some very strong opiate properties or synthetics in them... I even experienced some withdrawal sickness from those varieties and other opiates, while using normal kratom daily, so I have a glimpse of what the abyss of opiate/opiod addiction and withdrawal feels like.

So, first off to say hi and thanks for the post - will read through the whole thing gradually I think, 2nd to let you know I will be writing this detox experience up in case you want to read it and share etc, 3rd to ask - where do I write it? (I might just start a post in "homeless threads" section). Hopefully I can share some general insights from my 20 years of drug use alongside the practical details of the detox. Best wishes

Welcome drink,

I think you should start a thread right here and document the entire process. I used kratom to help kick the hard shit recently. So I will need to detox from the kratom shortly as well..

So I'm very interested in your documentation on this. You sound like you've got a good head on your shoulders and are of sound mind to do this..

Keep us in the loop and good luck!

Sixx

what happened? did someone make this for me somehow?! totally weirded out - it's magic! :D

(maybe I'm not of sound mind after all ;) )

EDIT - I'm also not sure about whether I want this diary to be in the "sober living" subforum, purely because I have spent a lot of time thinking about a general philosophy of drug use lately and I'm not sure yet if I believe in outright sobriety.

There's a lot to say about that point, but just out of curiosity what other subforums could this diary belong in? I don't mind if this is really the best most appropriate one, but would be good to know my options. Thanks

It's very easy for things to get compiled around here.. One of the mods probably moved it to help keep organised..

Welcome to Bluelight, DrinkTea!

I agree with Sixx - sober living is probably the right place for your diary. As far as your overall beliefs about sobriety, I wouldn't worry about them not fitting in here. This is one of the least judgemental places in the world. We welcome all people and opinions on sobriety.

When will you be starting your journey? Do you plan to taper? What comfort meds have you been able to acquire?

Best of luck and I hope you stick around!

- VE

Hey, DTLC. I also vote that you stick around the SL forum :). Many of us here are deeply committed to quitting particularly destructive habits...but we're all aiming for different things... nobody around here is gonna hassle you if abstinence from all drugs isn't your goal. We'll just support you as best we can.

How much were you using daily? The most I ever used was roughly 14 grams everyday of mostly Green Malay and Maeng Da for 11 months and just cold Turkeyed it...After roughly 5 days I was back to normal...The WD is very unique and the worst part is the anxiety and depression however it dissipates quickly..

Just because it says sober living it doesn't mean you have to be 100% sober moving forward. If this means kratom once a week for you, that's a heck of a lot better than daily usage -- everyone has a different definition of sobriety.

Keep posting your progress and if you need some advice we're happy to help.

Hey Drink. Welcome. :) I personally am grateful you're documenting this Kratom journey. Im struggling w a heroin relapse right now - and trying very unsuccessfully to get inpatient. I tried to just walk in to one where Ive been before- the lady (whom I didn't know and didn't know me) said I couldn't get into the female side because someone w better health benefits was coming in. Uggh...let's just say I got into w her. I couldn't tell her that someone that has alot of pull there advised me to walk in. I was escorted out. I just can't accept that when you're telling someone you need help before you end up dead or living in a box in Kensington and saying fuck it - wont help

I don't know much about Kratom- except to get the red for help detoxing. What worries me is that I have a VERY bad reaction to weed-like so bad it rivals a bad trip. Is Kratom similar in any way to weed? Im considering ordering some to help me bridge through this. Im getting a few Lyrica (its a legal Rx) today- thank Jesus. Im really losing my shit-I was seriously considering beating the shit out of that lady at rehab. My husband (who was staring at me while I was ranting) said "omg Sher, wtf?! You're going to get arrested you nut".

I was wondering if Kratom helps and if it has any similar qualities of weed. I dont want to end up in a suitcase in the closet from a severe panic attack. Thanks Drink. And I wish you all the best. Stargazer

10 years,

Kratom is not like put, it's much like percocet.. But not really. But it's enough to give me some pain relief, and began relief..I think you'll be impressed.

Drink_Tea_Love_Cat,

I apologize for creating this without letting your know before hand. That out of the way, your experience with this, regardless of what happens - whether you end up continuing to use whatever you're using, switch over to using kratom from what you were using, or use kratom short term to transition off whatever you're using, the particular is nearly as important as your documenting your own experience in trying out whatever strategy to improve your life that you're currently using - sharing your own experiences with this very well may help others in a similar situation infinitely more than you could know.

Hope to see you update this thread sometimes! Be well OP :)

There are 2 ways to quit.
1. Cold turkey, curl up in bed under the sheets and sweat it out for 2-3 days straight. You'll get the chills but it's not as bad as the real "O"s.
2. Step/taper down your dose within a week. So for example if you were taking 10g every 6 hours, the first day cut the grams in half but keep the same time frame. The second day cut the grams in half again of the previous day but keep the time frame, and so on. By the end of the week you should be fine. It really works ;)

Billa- that's great advice and also the same way pretty much you taper off Lyrica. For those that don't know-and maybe are taking Lyrica to get through detoxing- its a rattlesnake bite if you just drop off. Taper down and its painless that way. Hope you're ok Drink-hoping you're going to post an update

^If you haven't been taking pregabalin long term and haven't had a gabaergic dependence before stopping something like pregabalin shouldn't be too difficult. But if you've been on it longer term, particularly using it every day or at higher doses, definitely consider some sort of taper plan. Better safe than sorry, as 10Years rightfully points out!

TPD- holy fucking hell is Lyrica w/d bad. I learned the hard way. I was in heroin and Lyrica w/d at the same time once. I was so freaked out- I locked myself in the bathroom and forced myself to breathe normally - plus I have been using guided imagery meditation for years due to my cluster headaches. Im not going to lie- it was extremely difficult I pulled myself together and walked to Walgreens and looked insane. I was in a cold sweat, having a severe anxiety sttack and got a partial Rx for Lyrica.

As you said TPD-if you dont tske it regularly and are using it to help detox tapering down works and truly is painless. Even if I take it 5 days in a row-I will go through w/d if I dont taper off. I don't take my Lyrica everyday. I save it for my really bad days. When I have blinding headpain-it helps but in quite s unique way. My head still hurts -but my brain is not able to hold onto the thought of pain. Im sure that made no sense but Im having difficulty articulating. Sorry.

Why would having a prior gaba dependence matter in determining the severity of w/d? Lyrica doesn't act on gaba receptors the way benzos, zolpidem, ect. do. I do agree that Lyrica w/d is pretty brutal if you go c/t or even cut your dose too much during tapering.

I believe pregabalin is a gaba-b agonist, so while it does work a little differently than benzodiazepines and z-drugs, it still has more in common than not (e.g. they're both largely gabaergic substances, even if pregabalin is less so than classic benzos).

Having a prior dependency on gabaergic substance is a useful tool in determining the potential for problems when taking a new gabaergic substance. It is similar/related to the issue of cross-tolerance.

I'm glad you were able to pull through 10Years! How long had you been taking pregabalin by the time you experienced issues detoxing from it?

TPD-I have never taken Lyrica(Pregablin) - as directed. I am afraid it will stop helping w my head. Also I realized-it helped w opiate withdrawal. Occasionally I take it recreationally but ,as is well-known, tolerance builds quickly. So it has to be kept (recreationally) if you want that trippy - pleasant feeling to sporadic doses.

Sorry TPD- to answer your question-If I take it 7 or so days straight-at a high doses anywhere from 900mg - 2800mg without tapering off then its a horror show. You feel like you're going to explode the panic attacks are so severe Benzos don't help. All of that can be avoided by a simple taper. I take Lyrica every month about 20 times. At times I do take it back to back because my head is so bad. Even then, I try to put a day in between doses so it's more effective for pain.

Also gabapentin withdrawal is just as wicked As I mentioned, I needed my Rx for it filled, and figured I'd be ok waiting a day. Big Big mistake. However, I take 800mg sometimes more 3x day. And have been for almost 2yrs There's a Lyrica megathread that's very good here on BL. Hope that helped and I answered your question TPD <3
