A Story of Extreme Use of DMT/Psychadelics: COMMENTS & SPECULATION WELCOME!

The reason you don't see psilocybin ODs is that it has a high safety ratio and comes packed in mushrooms, a complication that prevents overdosing.
I would guess you are going to find DMT is quite prevalent in many species, the pineal gland (the source?) is fairly near the midbrain, so we evolved it quite a long time ago. So far, it seems to have been found in rats and humans.
Certainly a complex topic. Who knows, it may even have something to do with the rest of the thread!

Yep it comes in mushrooms and is more difficult to access then a trip to the local supermarket. Indeed it is a complex topic and it may have relevance to the OP. I have already posted my thoughts and advice on this topic earlier in the thread before the derailment. It is speculated that the pineal gland is the source and as you have stated it's been around for quite a long period of evolutionary development. Not a subject extensively researched though as it has limited/no value in terms of pharmaceutical drug development or be groundbreaking medical/scientific research justifying expenditure on further studies.

DMT may be the cause for the OP's brother experiencing the symptoms he has been experiencing or he may have schizophrenia, impossible to diagnose without further data and qualified medical assistance. The severity of the delusional thought process and evident danger of crashing a car 2 blocks from the individuals place of residence suggests that psychiatric help is a GOOD idea. He may be a danger to himself and others. Better to be sectioned under an ITO and receive medical/psychiatric intervention than risk another car crash. Worse yet if his delusional thought process causes him to fear people are attempting to hurt him/poison him etc he may try and defend himself from this perceived threat in any way possible including violence. Again I'm in no position to offer anything more than empathy, some limited advice which is to suggest psychiatric intervention, for his own safety and the safety of others.

I see no indication of the numerical values stated in your post re: DMT in animals an plants???
Rather poor sources. Erowid has the LD50 and Wikipedia has info on DMT amounts in the blood, I made the following approximations: 1 litre blood per 1 kilogram mass (1 L/kg), 5 L of blood per body, 70 kg body weight, 790 nanograms(ng) per L whole blood, 1 000 000 ng = 1 milligrams (mg).
790*5/70/1000000 = ~0.0001 mg/kg !!
130 ng/kg in the feces is approximately this, my original assumption was the feces and body will hold the same ratio of DMT.
Wikipedia also touches on a history of new discoveries and the discrediting of earlier discoveries of DMT that leave rats and humans as the only confirmed endogenous animals. They also mention "50 plant species".

Think about this early evolutionary development. DMT in a very basic element of our brain limited studies and discrediting of some earlier studies. Acacia species, marine sponges, certain mammals in this case rats and humans although I'm sure further studies would indicate that DMT as a neurotransmitter is far more common than that, plus going from memory. Interestingly have found nothing much on DMT in other species but tonnes on humans and rats injected with DMT here is one extract "N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a strong psychodysleptic drug, has been found in higher plants, shamanic hallucinogenic beverages, and the urine of schizophrenic patients. The aim of this work was to gain better knowledge on the relationship between this drug and hallucinogenic processes by studying DMT behavior in comparison with tryptamine. Methods: 131I-labeled DMT and tryptamine were injected into rabbits. γ-Camera and biodistribution studies were performed. Brain uptake, plasma clearance, and renal excretion were assessed for each indolealkylamine." Arturo A. Vitale, et al. 2011, In Vivo Long-Term Kinetics of Radiolabeled N,N-Dimethyltryptamine and Tryptamine. J Nucl Med June 1, vol. 52 no. 6 970-977.

A bit more from the abstract "Results: DMT and tryptamine showed different behavior when brain uptake, residence time, and excretion were compared. Labeled DMT entered the brain 10 s after injection, crossed the blood–brain barrier, and bound to receptors; then it was partially renally excreted. It was detected in urine within 24 h after injection and remained in the brain, even after urine excretion ceased; up to 0.1% of the injected dose was detected at 7 d after injection in the olfactory bulb. In contrast, tryptamine was rapidly taken up in the brain and fully excreted 10 min after injection. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration that exogenous DMT remains in the brain for at least 7 d after injection. Although labeled DMT and tryptamine behave as agonists for at least 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A receptor, 5-hydroxytryptamine 2C receptor, trace amine-associated receptor, and σ-1 putative receptor targets, binding to the latter can explain the different behavior of labeled DMT and tryptamine in the brain. The persistence in the brain can be further explained on the basis that DMT and other N,N-dialkyltryptamines are transporter substrates for both the plasma membrane serotonin transporter and the vesicle monoamine transporter 2. Furthermore, storage in vesicles prevents DMT degradation by monoamine oxidase. At high concentrations, DMT is taken up by the serotonin transporter and further stored in vesicles by the vesicle monoamine transporter 2, to be released under appropriate stimuli. Moreover, the 131I-labeling proved to be a useful tool to perform long-term in vivo studies". Arturo A. Vitale, et al. 2011, In Vivo Long-Term Kinetics of Radiolabeled N,N-Dimethyltryptamine and Tryptamine. J Nucl Med June 1, vol. 52 no. 6 970-977.

Really interesting research! Will endeavor to find more data on species containing dmt or dmt related alkaloids, such as bufotenin (Incilius alvarius one species) and 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo alvarius). Apparently rabbit's contain trace amounts of DMT according to wiki detected in a sample of liver tissue? Anyway interesting stuff. Exogenous DMT remains in the brain for at least 7 days post administration.

The OP has brought up various other drugs his brother was using about a month before this happened. They could also be responsible.

As Solipsis had mentioned, and I agreed, there are various psychological complications manifest with drug use and ultimately psychosis. Native aspects, not these exactly, but paranoia/social anxiety as examples, could be considered common illnesses and almost certainly the difficulties would be abolished through drug use, and joyous life returned.
Symbolically and physically, those solutions will be present throughout his recovery phase and once the positivist aspects of these drugs have cycled off, the underlying emotions would have to be realized and previous psychological dilemmas would have to be resolved, to discourage relapse.

Your saying 70 mgs is a lethal dose of Psilocybin, DMT for a 70 kg individual?? I'm a little confused. In your previous post you state 110 mgs is toxic for dmt per kg in mice? That would mean someone weighing 70 kg would need to consume 7.7 grams of dmt?? That is an awful lot of dmt, I doubt that the most nutty psyche fiends on this planet have even consumed close to 3 grams of dmt in one extended sitting. This does not mean negative psychological effects may have been experienced at much lower doses of say 500 mg, indeed negative psychological and physical effects would occur well before a lethal dose was consumed causing death. A large dose of smoked DMT would for me cause at least 20-30 minutes of being unable to smoke any more as I'd be way to off this planet, probably have trouble walking or even sitting upright for that matter.

I mean yes these substances are dangerous to some extent but you come across as very anti psychedelic substances period. Responsible use is fine for the majority of the population. Hell some cultures have used these substances for shamanic/spiritual/religious practices for thousands of years, perhaps even tens of thousands of years. No point arguing about the potential vectors for the affected individual in questions mental health decline it has occurred. The best advice to give is for them to abstain from substances and seek professional help.

Ismene does not have his facts straight

Coming from a man claiming DMT and psilocybin are highly toxic I take that as a compliment.

Care to tell me how many deaths a year from psilocybin overdose as opposed to paracetomol?

Yes. This makes a lot of sense. I personally have never smoked DMT but had just finished extracting my first batch when I found all of this out and this has made me a little nervous to smoke it where before I had no reservations. I have always believed that there were positive effects from using psychedelics.

Man if he was abusing DMT the way you say.
I wouldn't be surprised if something from that thin veil of the other side latched onto him.

"it looks like this guy is having fun being all disruptive to the temporal space time continuum. Lets fuck with him!"

Honestly he needs to lay off the drugs and be in a loving environment which allows him to cast this darkness out.
Darkness works for some, not for others, those that it doesn't work for generally suffer.
Abuse is part of darkness. he needs to find a bite outside of the oubourous that has encompassed his life
If you can help him. Help him. If not the doctors will and the outcomes of those situations generally always isn't the most positive in terms of well... Living.

Remember though. choices, choices all is a game of roulette. Its your head.
One of the times when you pull the trigger for release something is going to misfire.

The toxicity each chemical has on humans is probably not the same as for mice, but the effect on mice is our "best guess" estimate of which is more toxic to us.
Psychedelics kill and damage people. Something I have experience with?
So ya. I tend to be anti-psychedelic and pro-intellectual. When you search for answers about drugs you get a lot of downright lies stated as facts, and a ton of accusation that psychedelics being illegal is meaningless. People give the impression they are harmless and only benefit us. They say convoluted things like cheeseburgers kill people and think it is clever. It is nonsense and of course people hate finding out they are wrong. Once you start putting facts together the pro-drug movement starts to come apart.
Ask yourself why we are talking about toxicity. Why? Because it sounds fucking great if you can go around saying your drug is non-toxic.
It is also going to sound good when you compare the danger of your drug with a common everyday experience, like electricity, and all the ways electricity is more harmful.than your drug.
Guess what? Someone has thought of that before. It has occurred to people before you came around that electricity has some good and some bad, but all in all it is worth people dying to install wiring into your house.
I did psychedelics and I have to completely disagree with the current tide of thought. I did not find them to be of any use at all. There is nothing wrong with my opinion. I am not missing anything. I just had no benefit from them.
I have a few grievances with drugs however. One is that I lost my mind. It is probably fairly horrible on the scale of things horrible and it probably wound up costing me quite a lot.
I tend not to overlook the evidence that drugs can harm you.
