Not entirely convinced it IS (or started as) smokers cough as was initially combined with headache, stuffy nose and phelgmyness.
But anyway...

I've developed a really severe, hacking, smokers cough. Like really deep, hacking cough that sometimes is enough that I get really dizzy (from lack of oxygen, I guess?). Cough feels very, very deep in lungs like I have to force every molecule of air out of my lungs to relieve it...which sometimes it does for a while as small amount of thick, disgusting-old-smoke-flavoured phlegm comes up.
It is VERY much exacerbated by smoking.

Anyway, my stupid question is: Is there any way to get rid of - or at least lessen - this type of cough BESIDES not smoking?*

P.S. Anyone wanna make out? ;) #sexy

*I AM smoking much less, though

Make some green dragon tincture from your bud and use it instead of smoking for a few days to a week and let your bronchial tubes and lungs to clear up. You need to heal before it develops from an acute state to a chronic one. ❤️

Tobacco smoke I'm guessing? It could be a lot of things. Are you asking if you should go to a doctor for medicine or..? If it is just weed I like the tincture idea.
Mullien tea or some people put it in joints, it's an expectorant. Low doses of gaufacine (sp?) but it makes me nauseous with too much.
E: Actually, I blanked. I'm making a tincture right now that is elderberry, scullcap, damiana, valerian, mullien, and glaucium flavum, with honey, lemon juice, and everclear. Might want to leave the valerian and glaucium out if you dont want to be fucked up or asleep...

Oh, Sorry, should have said: I'm taking about regular cigarettes

Yes, tobacco smoke (cigarettes, specifically).
I was wondering if there was either something OTC I can take, or just anything in general.

Dxm or opioids will lessen the symptoms.

Opioids will really stop the cough and make breathing easier. But then you’ll be dependent on opioids.

I’m just getting over a minor cough that lasted for almost two months because I was smoking A LOT of a drug that will go away unnamed. I’m feeling much better nowX

Just try really hard to switch to other route of administration like edibles for weed or troches for nicotine. If it’s heroin plug it instead of smoke it etc.

I know the smoking itself is addictive but abstaining is the only way to recover.

The morphine and codeine you take should eliminate smokers cough. Legally prescribed opiods keep me from smokers cough.

Sorry, I can't help you.

But you reminded me of the time I found my great aunt's Rx codeine cough syrup ("one teaspoon as needed for cough" was typed on the label). No, I didn't steal it but I did take a couple swigs.

Of course this was many years ago. My great aunt was a lifelong cigarette smoker and had a persistent cough for the last few years of her 77-year life. I don't recall what finally did her in, but I don't think it was lung-related.

Anyway, I was just thinking Ahh, the good old days...
Patient:
"Doctor, I have smoker's cough."
Doctor: "No problem. An opiate will fix that."

🤣

Two items needed.

1.
Generic name = Carbocisteine
Trade name = Mucospect (capsules)

+

2.
Cough Syrup containing only
Bromhexine Hydrochloride: 4mg/5ml
Orciprenaline Sulphate:5mg/5ml

Trade name = Linctopent

Both OTC - maybe try for a few days and see if it helps.

Nice thing is also no addictive ingredients and should be easy to purchase OTC and can be effective.

Because of all those damn rappers; area pharmacies don't carry any codeine with promethazine cough syrup in case I ever stop using prescription opiods regularly and need something that works and won't keep me up all night.

I hear stories about how till a certain date you could just buy codeine cough syrup by asking the pharmacist and signing something. Nothing ever worked except opiods for coughs for me.

I didn't know that.
I do know that for a long time you could get paregoric or Donnagel-PG (kaolin + tincture of belladonna + paregoric) that way. I think that ended sometime in the 1990s.

i always take a shower foe the steam and because of that feeling good sometimes i'll boil water and breath that in if i don't want to waste water... google says steam can help a cough,. i don't know if it's with the kind you have...

on a similar level as the OP , i've been smoking a ton more weed for a few reasons like sometimes a good deal over an 1/8th a day, and i've been coughing a lot. i was talking to this site when i first started about how i've been smoking a half 1/8th a day for years and never cough... well smoking more makes me cough... sometimes in the morning all the muccus will make me puke too along with the cough. it's pretty annoying.

Yes, codeine cough syrup can actually still in some states, there is a loophole about 4 oz and 30mg of some form of codeine and one bottle every 48 hours. 18yr old and state ID. Sign a log book. But no chains carry it and many states have laws. It is some special schedule 5 exempt status and it is at the pharmacists discretion and state law.

It sounds strange but look it up. The issue come a down to state laws, chains not carrying it and not really something to get high off, of. Mom and Pop type pharmacies have it in some states and the pharmacist usually has to know you.
Look it up on drug.com.

Look it up on drug.com, I just read it, but not sure how old the posts are. But I get the impression that this stuff is weak and hard to find.

I don't think it is the same as what was sold in the 60's and even part of 70's though.

You cannot get codeine cough syrup where I live*
I am PRESCRIBED Codeine (30mg Codeine Phosphate pills)....wonder if these would help, or if it needs to be in syrup form for some reason? Could dissolve some in a drink?

*Actually, this is untrue. You can get "Codeine Linctus" but it's "to be sold at the pharmacists discretion" and have never gotten a pharmacist to sell it to me. They usually just claim you need a prescription (untrue, but I can see why they don't wanna just admit they aren't comfortable selling it to you as would invite argument).

I said state, not referring to codeine where you are. Their is in America a weird loophole, about 4 oz bottles of 30mg codeine cough syrup, not sold in all states. Not carried by chains, and only available at some mom and pop drugstores in some states, you have to have ID, be 18yo and sign for it.
Most places don't have it and it is next to useless to use for getting high, and pharmacies in the STATES as in The United States. Go to drugs.com and check under codeine cough syrup. The particular stuff is a schedule 5, but can sold at a pharmacists discretion and according to the site, many STATES, have banned it and most pharmacists will only sell it, if at a Small independent store, if they know you.

It has become almost impossible to get and the few places you can get it only 4 oz every 48 hours and at the pharmacists discretion. Look up codeine cough syrup legally at drugs.com Cheratussin AC can be bought in New Mexico and possibly other states but like I said only some states, 18yo, ID, sign a book and one 4 ounce bottle every 48 hrs, if the Mom and Pop pharmacy sells it, and only at the pharmacists discretion.

They may have even banned further the codeine cough syrup in the 🇬🇧, not sure.
Came across this while looking up laws on getting effective cough syrup, if I ever quit my oxycodone script and Valium scripts.

I don't use drugs except what is legal, and/ or prescribed to me. Nicotine, that is different and a real bitch to quit, again for the ?th time. The particular cough syrup is a schedule 5, but had a pharmacist discretion clause, and no chains sell it

Yes, this will provide short term relief just by taking them normally. (not too much though).

I have often had a tight chest around 3/4 am and taking 40mg Codeine helped more often then not allowing me to sleep a few more hours breathing much better.

However the relief will be short lived (just for the night/morning) and probably would need to be repeated nightly (until the smoking stopped.... which isn't an option at this time for me anyway) - and I would rather use these as a last resort rather than a regular treatment for this specific symptom.

Let me know how those meds suggested earlier perform, I would really be interested.

Lastly, I do cheat with Prednisone when needed, I guess I am lucky to have a supply as these require a prescription, but are good to have in the medicine chest.

Cough is, if anything, worse.
Muscle in diaphragm ache from coughing, just walking up the stairs has me struggling to breathe.
Should I go to doctors? It's been like 11 days

I’ve been sick for a month with a minor cough and recurring viruses.

Smoked a lot of weed and fentanyl and it cause it I think.

We need to stop all forms of smoking we are killing our selvez. Snorting drugs is very bad too for the lungs and sinuses. Out the drugs in your butt or mouth and that’s it! Why’s it so hard tho.

I’m at the doctor now

I think you really need to see a doctor mate, that doesn't sound right.

But morphine is an excellent cough suppressant... :\
