So back in June i had tried to cold turkey off of Suboxone which i had been on for about 4 years. Yeah i know, way too long. Needless to say i thought it was the worst withdrawal i've ever experienced. Worse than Methadone, Oxy 40's/80's, and heroin. I believe it was due to the amount of time i was on Subs. My runs with the other opiates weren't nearly that long. So of course in my mind i started to justify and rationalize why Xanax would help with the withdrawal. It started off small. Just a coupld mg's a day. Little did i know what lied ahead...

About 9 months later i was taking 16-20mg of Xanax a day like clockwork. More if i wanted to "party". But really just to maintain and function at that point. So I ended up at a 2-week-don't-leave-or-you'll-get-302'd-clinic that started my ween process off with 10mg of klonopin a day. No rehab would take over my detox for obvious liability reasons. We did eventually find someone but i was cut down from 10mg of klonopin to 0.5mg the day i was sent to the rehab. This is when HELL STARTED. I can honestly say that benzo withdrawal is the absolute worst experience i've ever had in my life. I thought i was LITERALLY LITERALLY going crazy at times due to crazy eye convulsions/vision/migraine/etc. plus all the other crazy benzo withdrawal symptoms. It took 2 full months before i started to feel somewhat normal again and have any kind of memory. I cannot remember almost EVERYTHING that happened within the past year. Good news is that my memory is slowly coming back however.

But i do want to share the medications that did help me out tremendously while i was there. A combination of Doxepin (anti-depressant that makes you a zombie but helps tremendously with the withdrawal symptoms), Inderol (for the DT's), Depakote (worked wonders i thought), and Visteril for sleep. They had tried different combinations of all kinds of medications but these seemed to help me out the best. So for those looking to get off of benzodiazepines and are looking for something that will help, these medications worked for me.

I guess i'm writing this because the moral of the story is that i've read a lot of stuff online and have known people that tried getting off opiates and started taking Xanax. I cannot stress how bad of an idea this is and i'm sure you've read many stories on here and other forums stressing not to substitute one addiction for another. If you're an addict then you know Xanax addiction can skyrocket before you know it. I've now been off them for i'm guessing a few months now (i can't honestly remember) and my brain is starting to function like normal again. So just know no matter how bad it gets there is always a light at the end of the tunnel!

My apologies for the storybook but thought i would share my story here. Mods please move if this isn't in the right section. Have a great day everyone!
