They say you don’t really stand a chance
When everywhere you go there’s the devil to glance at
And it’s true you’re bound to fall at least once or twice
But when it’s over and over you realize your vice
So you sit up in a cage of smoke and mirrors
Watch the sun fade give rise to your fears
The clock keeps ticking no matter how you feel
When darkness descends its heavy cloak
You’re trying hard to remember that forgotten joke
But it slips past you anyway like all of your yesterdays
The spiral continues and it’s only one way
Like a dead end street that never ends
You can either continue down it or kill the trend
Going round and round in circles of pain and boredom
You want em more and more but you can’t afford ‘em
When darkness descends its heavy cloak
You’re trying hard to remember that forgotten joke
From when we were kids and everything still seemed so fresh
In our own little world we’d test the limits of our flesh
It's unfinished, but this is my little song that I have so far.
I am thinking about singing this at coffee shops with an acoustic guitar.
