6 month heroin habit

About 6 month ago, with the aid of a buddy, I tried heroin for the first time via smoking it on tin foil. I quite enjoyed the feeling, and wanted to experience it again. However being well aware of H's addictive nature, assured myself id only smoke it on occasion.

Well u know the story. Once in a while became a few times a month which became every weekend & before long it became a daily habit. .

After about 5-6 months of daily use I decided to kick the habit before it was too late. I've been clean for about a week, using tiny amounts of subutex to taper (I didn't need too much help to avoid bad withdrawals bc my tolerance was still relatively low)

My question is, since the habit was so short lived, will I feel normal again after a few months or will a have to fight a constant battle with the stuff always in the back of my mind?

[P.S Almost always smoked it, slammed it (IV) maybe a dozen times]

Coming from a long time user, almost 15 years, 6 months doesnt seem like a long time but still a heroin habit is a heroin habit. For some people even after quitting they still struggle with the constant thought of it in the back of their minds. I guess its what you do with those thoughts that counts. If you can keep them as memories and not let them lead to actions you will regret then its not the worst thing in the world. I would imagine with your binge being a fairly short one, over time im sure it wont be such a huge priority in your head and you hopefully will be able to go about your normal life getting enjoyment out of things other than heroin. All in all your making a good choice by trying to stop at this early stage, because after years and years it can get to be pretty depressing. Good luck to you, I really hope everything works out for you.

Thank you for ur advice, it is appreciated. I think I will be fine. I know various triggers will pop up now & then, & will present a challenge but I'm just thankful I stopped relatively quickly

Are you still having withdrawal symptoms? I'm in a pretty shitty state right now. Fentanyl WD's.

No, I've been taking just enough subutex (buprenorphine) to avoid WDs. They r a huge help for me but r not for everyone; they can be just as addicting as opiates. I'm no expert but id say the physical part of ur WDs should be over within a week or 2 depending on ur usage.

W/D's suck big time man, I feel for you. but youll get through it and before you know it youll be on the other side. obviously there will be times when you find yourself in a situation where you are tempted to use again but just remember what you went through and that you don't want to have to go through it again. good luck man, youll make it, just push through and never look back. and make sure you don't trade one habit for another with the buprenorphine.

youll make it man, just takes some willpower. which im sure you have a lot of seeing as you have made the choice to quit.

^ like he said there will be temtations out therebut you just gotta remember why you stopped in the first place and there will always be consequences for your actions. it only takes one fuck up to turn into a total relapse. just to know that your family and friends will have your back, and your true friends will not use by you if they're your true friends. stay strong stay safe live a happy life brother.... Peace
