trying to find an alternative to SSRI's for anxiety (long term) due to their emotional blunting effects.

apparently only NDRI's and 5ht1a agonists don't cause such side effects, but i'm already on ritalin, which only calms me to an extent and for a few hours.

anyone know if yohimbine's 5ht1a activity is anywhere near comparable to buspirone? no pharmacy seems to carry buspirone around here...

Even though Yohimbine is only a weak MAOI, combining it with your Ritalin can cause a dangerous increase in blood pressure, I would avoid it.

Also there's no reason to think that any and every 5-HT1A partial agonist is going to have the same anxiolytic activity that Buspirone does. There's likely something special about the selectivity and off target effects of Buspirone, you're not going to mimic that with Yohimbine.

For your information:

Agonist and antagonist actions of yohimbine as compared to fluparoxan at alpha(2)-adrenergic receptors (AR)s, serotonin (5-HT)(1A), 5-HT(1B), 5-HT(1D) and dopamine D(2) and D(3) receptors. Significance for the modulation of frontocortical monoaminergic transmission and depressive states.

i've combined them at low doses with success for motivational/antidepressive purposes.

i only take ritalin 10 mg 1-3x per day as needed, never abuse it, and yohimbine up to 15 mg.

i find it strange that it can produce euphoria (the yohimbine) and mood lift in some individuals if it behaves a lot like an antipsychotic though... even i feel a mood lift, but it's ruined by the headache it causes.

i'm also interested as it's the only "antidepressant"-like compound available otc that can actually facilitate weight loss.

oh and "here" is coahuila, mexico.

i believe the only brand i can find it in mexico under is "neurosine" but no pharmacies carry it... at least in this particular town...

by the way, there was an interesting study that showed that yohimbine during the sleep cycle can break depression effective over night. interesting...

Hi lopez,

did you keep taking the yohimbine ritalin combo? Was it effective for you?

anyone know if yohimbine's 5ht1a activity is anywhere near comparable to buspirone?

Yohimbine has a ~300x selectivity for alpha2-antagonism vs 5-ht1a partial agonism.

You would have to take THOUSANDS of milligrams and that would most likely be LETHAL.

I would look more into things that are minimizing oxidative stress/inflammation and promoting BDNF. Lately it seems that the research is suggesting it's not the SSRI activity, but neurogenesis and growth of new synaptic spines that are really helping treat depression/anxiety symptoms. Seems like inflammation is also at the root of it all, hence why BDNF is the key to treating depression/anxiety. I also think glutamate excitotoxicity is usually involved in those pathologies. So I'd address those things instead of the Serotonergic system directly. Psychedelic compounds are really effective at upregulating BDNF, but if you're looking for a more docile method, I'd suggest nutritional supplements as an option. [advertising removed]

Taking yohimbine for anxiety problems is a fucking joke man ^^ What about taking IV fentanyl to cure heroin overdose?
