I used the advanced search and did not see this anywhere. If I missed it, moderators please just delete my thread. I don't want to be redundant.

This article has a few suggestions that I had not thought about. Many are obvious ways of getting high without drugs or alcohol, at least obvious to Bluelighters.

But I thought it was a terrific read, and I wanted to bounce ideas around if anyone else wants to.

Notice that 3 of the ways - yoga, breathing, and exercise - can be done at once (as yoga involves conscious breathing, and can be intense exercise, depending on the type and one's skill level).

In fact, when I saw the title, yoga was the first thing I thought of. I love yoga, and often use it when I am quitting an addiction.

(I also adore doing yoga while on drugs, and it seems to make many drugs feel better, while the drugs make the yoga feel better... The best drugs for yoga that I have experienced are psychedelics: LSD, mushrooms, various cacti, and weed.)

But I find doing anything really intensely can get me high. Studying, meditating, etc. all can make me feel high if I really go all-out.

speaking at an NA meeting is a high? I doubt the author has ever been forced by a judge to attend these things while going through heroin withdrawal.

The NA and AA fellowships permanently discredited themselves when they allowed themselves to be co-opted by the nefarious criminal justice system.

I'm surprised the article mentions Bikram yoga but doesn't touch at all on the effects of saunas or hot springs which are popular in many cultures for the calming effect that comes from heating up the body

Having sex seems a little bit self-explanatory. lol.

yeah, that and intense workouts were obvious.
sometimes sex itself can be some pretty intense physical activity.
after a long, sweaty climb to orgasm with my hot gf.... I'd be so fucking rich if I could bottle that.

Not to mention the "GOD" trip they lay on everyone.

People do. They are called pimps.

AA/NA has no positions on anything, and neither supports nor opposes any causes. If the courts say, you gotta attend, all that means is that the chair has to sign a piece of paper at the end. And anyone in a meeting who wants to complain about having to be there because the courts forced them to can STFU while the adults in the room try get and stay sober, and to help others get and stay sober. Also, some of those people who are forced to go to meetings wind up changing their lives because of it. A tiny percentage I'm sure, but I'll take that any day over nada. AA/NA have not been co-opte by anything or anyone. I go all the time, and I rarely see or notice the forced-attender.

And yeah, for a person who has gotten sober from hard boozing, I can get a little high from speaking at a meeting. It can release a lot of pent up shit, and that feels damn good.

As for getting high from public speaking, I can imagine that.
Especially if you open up, and push yourself beyond what you thought you could manage.

As for whether AA has "no positions on anything" etc., it is pretty hard to believe.
They push a particular perspective, and while it might help some people, it drives away others (as I think we have seen here).

pressing on the outside of your eyeballs with your fingers (quite hard, so that it just won't hurt) for some seconds leads to some sort of a vision black out and you'll see colorful fractal images without substance use.

i found this (not only this ;-)) out under the shower, when i was a kid. i did check it with a couple of friends, and it works for them too. though i get a bit dizzy from it.

Most of the people in the group I went to (including myself) were there because of a court order. Actually only one guy was there by choice, and he was a piece of shit IMO. Never shut up about his problems. I would just alternate spots on the ceiling and nod my head when everyone was agreeing on something. I was there for pot though which always got a laugh in the introductions. I almost felt like a jackass, as a guy would go before me saying how his life is all fucked up and Id just get up and be like "yeah I smoke too much pot"

Um.. this breathing thing is'nt really getting me high.. Is this a christian organisation by chance? pass me my fuckin shards.. (harm reduction in the way I didnt harm the christian.%)

I have such an intense hatred for the fellowship that I should really keep my mouth shut about it.
That'd be fine too. Just, if you're gonna bash something that does work for some people, maybe you should make your hatred transparent.

I shoulda said "no positions on anythings outside of sobriety and how to get there and stay there". Of course, they believe their way works, and the reson they believe it is because it works for them. It works for me.

And agreed, it's not for everybody. If people can get sober in ANY way, (and they want to) they should. I don't judge anyone for hating AA/NA, but I don't think that people with negative experiences with those fellowships should judge everyone in them under some sort of blanket policy of disapproval. My guys in the program are some of the most awesome people I've ever known, and that they live their lives in peace, and go about helping others, and have helped me immensely, maybe eve saved my life, THAT gives me some serious respect, admiration, and love for these guys.

eating lots of really hot chili sauce (>>500kscv) can put one into an altered state too. not making fun. it's a bit dissociative.
