5-HTP and Pot

^ Yea, meant to say increases it's activity/is released. Though I think their more to the burn out effect then just melatonin depletion. It might also be attributed to depletion of cannabinoids, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

5htp is not a bad idea with any mind altering substances, if for nothing other than placebo effect alone. Never underestimate placebo effect :)

^ Can you show a study that shows its no more effective than placebo effect?

^ I'm aware of that, but i thought you were implying that 5-htp's effects are just placebo. With placebo you just get the effects you expect.

I didn't know 5-HTP could be used to potentiate the cannabis high seeing as 5-HTP works on serotonin and from the reading I've done THC mimicks anandamide to release dopamine into the synapse. So I guess I'm having trouble seeing where the two relate and potentiate.

^ It doesn't potentiate it. Weed actually decreases activity of serotonin. 5-HTP just tweeks the high so it's different. It increases some positive effects like pain relief and euphoria while reducing some positive and negative effects like racing thoughts or munchies.

Interesting.

I guess "potentiate" might not be the most bio-chemically accurate way to describe the effect. But I would agree with Tsukasa that it does tend to add an element of euphoria while also decreasing anxiety (I also notice, for lack of a better term, an increased "dreaminess").

However, when I think about the fact that 5-HTP tends to make me a more generally up-beat and less anxious person without anything else added, it dawns on me that it may just be the mild psychedelic properties of pot that are magnifying my perceptions of those pre-existing positive effects.

Did some more trials with 5-htp, up to 400 mg doesn't have any effect on my day except make me feel dreamy, and I didn't go over that. Sleep is more refreshing, but falling asleep is odd; I am put in a weird hypnagogia for quite long before I fall asleep.
