2024 US Presidential Election

The election result doesn't bother me that much because at the end of the day I'm more focused on trying to help my community
while that's very admirable (no sarcasm!) and important, you are probably aware that the socioeconomic framework you have to operate in is determined by the politics we have on a high level. where the money to be spent can be allocated etc. and a deteriation of national politics to authoritarianism or even fascism will impact you greatly on what you can do to help your community.

the fact that most people don’t care about foreign wars or about gender minorities, they care about feeding their children and keeping a roof over their head.
I agree with this too. True conservatism. And yes Harris was a little weak. But what I don't understand is how Americans really believe a guy who hijacked the republican party and drove a lot of people out is the answer to this. As if trump cares about anything conservative. I have a lot of family and a lot in Texas who struggled with this. But finally realized trump is not a conservative. And trump use to make fun of republicans as dumb when he was a Dem. I remember the earlier days in NY. And he is doing what he said they would, go along with anything because they are dumb. That is the part I do not understand. That people believe trump is the answer. That is the part that hurts my heart from my fellow Americans, to be sucked in. That the ability to discern that is gone in half Americans. No street smarts at all. I know a lot about conservative values. And most are missing in trump yet people went along with it.. That is the part that baffles me. Witnessing people support the hate is the hard part for me. And I totally understand the gripes about the left. Trust me I do. I do care more about a roof over my head and food. Just that I also believe trump could care less about any American. THAT part is what confuses me.

Both Republicans and Democrats need to start putting decent people up. Harris had some decency as she did not use hate as a force for good. I think the part that hurts my heart (that was way more conservative than liberal) is that people supported hate speeches. Most people would rather have a beer together than fight. Yet internal fighting was ignited and by guess who????

After 911 we were all united. At least in the US we were. And we used another country as the common enemy) to unite both dems and repubs. Now we are fighting internally and I do blame trump for that. Arousing the hate in people. I would hate to sow what was reaped there.

how does she suck?

She sucks in many ways.

Trump supports Israel doing wathever they want against all Palestina and not only terrorists cause he takes their money and works for them. That's being a prosionist bastard.
Kamala, like he rest of her party, does exactly the same but then she pretends that she cares about Palestina and self-determination and bullshit. That's being a prosionist bastard plus a miserable lying snake.

If you were to ask both of them candidates ten years ago where was Poltava or what the Dombass was, they would not know and would not care about, and that's why Trump says he will stop supporting Zelensky, Kamala, on the other hand, wants to feed that war only to harm Russia and she doesn't care how many hundred of thousands of young slavic men will die. A big lover of Ukraine who, if tomorrow Ukraine has a war with Poland, will be arming Varsovia to bomb Kiev no problem as Poland is a NATO member and the others are not.

She was the first to know how old and out of it Biden was and never had the guts to put the interest of her country over her party's agenda and raise her voice to say: "this man is not an option to defeat Trump and command the US, so let's elect another candidate, and here I am if you think that you need me". No, she kept lying about how great old Joe was till the last day, and then she acts like she allways has been the great leader, the woman that the party and the country needed. What a fucking joke.

That's how she sucks in my opinion.
And I could write many books explaining how Trump sucks, also.

when the right have spent 4 years making excuses for a rapist fraudster who wants to suspend the constitution, jail people who disagree with him and unleash the u.s. military on citizens, maybe you'll understand when nobody gives a shit that kamala harris copied her classmate's homework.

it's called perspective. let's try to keep the HDS in check?

When was trump convicted of rape?

i didn't say he was convicted of rape. i said he was a rapist. more accurately, he's an adjudicated rapist.

when kaplan ruled in august (in the defamation case) that the jury verdict showed carroll's rape allegation was "substantially true", he dismissed trump's counterclaim that she defamed him by calling him a rapist.

the best defense against defamation is showing that the claim is true. that's what happened here. calling trump a rapist is not defamation because it's true (in the eyes of the law).

Well shit all as long as thoughtful posts by all people are being thrown out I feel better. I have more faith in the people than the leadership.

Good points. Here is what gets me about politics. When I went to the FDR house for a visit I learned about the internment camps. (yeah not a big history guy) And FDR was hailed as a great leader and he may have been. But rounding up all Japanese to camps was so sick I cannot even speak to it. Also pretending to not be sick with polio. Crazy. So politics puts on a good show. But we need more than just show.

And yes, I can write books on how pathetic the right is too and especially trump. But politics needs to change. Not sure how, I would like a peak in about 100 years from now.

@Mr. Krinkle

Yes, these things are of great concern, but I have no power to control them - I can just show up and do the work that's in front of me.

Or we need to change.

Politics isn't everything... it's politics. It's important but at the end of the day, we still just have to play the cards we are dealt and put our best foot forward. Know what your values are and stay true to them, invest in the things you want to see more of in the world. That's my mantra. If you want to see something grow, tend to it and nurture it. If you don't like something, don't get in the way of it.

Right but that is what this forum is about. ;)

As long as people like you are around tk I am ok with the world. Your mantra and vibe keep it in balance. Like I had said before I have more faith in people. Politics is a lot of talking about how the world should be by several billion different people. I am ok with talks of unity. I am not ok with talks of division.

Means a lot man, thank you. I do try to push for good, roll with the bad. I can't change America, but I can change the way my city helps people impacted by drugs. That's what I'm here to focus on.

Someday, maybe, I'll go back and get a Doctorate.... that's the dream anyway. I want to transconformulate all these kholes, trips, binges into something meaningful for the real world - to heal the suffering of others by knowing intimately the what and why people use drugs to numb pain... I want to take all that understanding of suffering, and the way we numb it, and I want to grow that into some ideas that spark some collaboration which maybe someday helps someone else not struggle as much.

Be kinda cool.

You know why Kamala lost? I think the real reason is because of Trump's devious 2 year incremental tax hikes on working class Americans. This was never addressed. Biden never even mentioned it. All they talk about is taxing billionaires but never lowering taxes on regular people.

Sure, the economy recovered under Biden, but only for rich people and corporations. Normal people only saw higher prices at the counter and on their paychecks.

Yes, they did try to introduce price gouging bills which were struck down by Republicans... but they just give up and never even explained that they tried.

Also zero rhetoric on Gaza... the left is the one who wanted it to end. They were SILENT on the issue.

The dems are very out of touch with the bulk of their voter base. I am very angry and disillusioned towards them.

How do you fuck up that badly? Trump would be easy to beat if they pulled their head out of their complacent elitest arses. It is their fault.

There's those things. But also there's the covering up/breezing by of Joe Biden's mental capabilities.

his administration's unilateral (going above instead of through Congress) decision to fly in significant numbers of immigrants whose vetting was questionable

can you expand on what you mean here? are you referring to the trump campaign's claims from earlier this year? e.g.

"Today it was announced that 325,000 people were flown in from parts unknown - migrants were flown in airplane, not going through borders ... It was unbelievable. I said that must be a mistake. They flew 325,000 migrants. Flew them in over the borders and into our country." (trump speech, march 2024)

Trump is a dishonest liar. How many people who were a part of his first Presidency came out and publicly stated he’s utterly incompetent.

I “joined” the GOP as soon as he won. The national condition really scares me. The CIA looks into and rates democracies around the world. They look at specific indicators to determine the strength of a democracy. They are prevented from analyzing the US because they are forbidden from doing anything with American Citizens due to previous horrible crimes, but the scientist who performed the analysis of other democracies was not held by this. She stated that given the current state of affairs in the US we would be heavily red flagged as a weak democracy that showed many signs of really being in trouble.

It’s kind of creepy how people will just come up to you and start talking politics like you must agree with them. It seems especially prevalent with dim people. Because of my profession this happens pretty regularly. I can not believe the lack of intelligence and unbelievable gullibility that these people showed. I literally had to restrain myself from both laughing and lambasting them for their idiocy.

I joined the GOP.. figured why not as it may protect me if there is a modern Kristallnacht on the horizon. May give a little time to escape or something.

I didn't do my research well enough. It's not from Trump, but an article that mentioned an organization that claimed cases of fraud by immigration sponsors during the vetting. According to the Department of Homeland Security these occurred only in a few cases, and when they did occur in certain cases it was mostly accidental errors and not fraud.

yep. and, as i have learned from this election, his supporters don't care.

have you seen these 'comedy' bits where a reporter goes to a trump rally and asks maga supporters a question. they'll say something like "how do you feel about joe biden saying the u.s. constitution needs to be suspended and wrecking the first amendment by going after journalists who criticize him"? and the maga supporters say "it's terrible. he's a disgrace and should be thrown in prison". then the reporter tells them that actually trump said that shit and not biden. their response is "oh, i don't care, i'm still voting for him"

they know he's a fraudster. they know he's a rapist. they know he's spent his entire life stiffing the working class. they know he's really not that great a businessman. they know he slept with a porn star and has had multiple kids with multiple women. they know he's not really a christian. they know he's a misogynist.

they know it all and they don't care.

right. we touched on it earlier:

^ do you even bother to research the links you post?

they're not illegal aliens.

those applying must have a sponsor in the u.s. and they must pass a background check. once approved, they are authorized to live and work in the u.s. for two years legally.

that tweet is yet more hyperbolic, fear-mongering bullshit.

alasdair

the thing that saddens me greatly is that people hear stuff like that and it convinces them trump is the answer (or, at very least kamala harris is a problem).

and their decision is based on something that's not even happening :(
