2024 US Presidential Election

Audit, then end, the Federal Reserve Bank.
Will 'fix' much of our problems.
Finally, some relevant discussion in this thread.

You all (y'allllll) bitching about Trump vs whoever, it makes no shred of difference.

People need to get real. Reality is certainly coming to hit us all square in the jaw in the next few years regardless of where we live. Democracy is dead as fucking dead, and we're heading into a global totalitarianism. Covid was the shot across the bow.

Trump got elected the first time because a lot of people didn't like either choice.
I like Harris&Walz, but even if one feels meh about them surely any thinking person can see that Trump is absolutely unacceptable. This is why many Republicans have publicly endorsed the Dem ticket this time-- they consider Trump utterly unfit and they are putting their patriotism above party or policy.
This particular race isn't about right/ left or Rep/Dem, it's about the existential threat Trump poses. Republicans who still have hope for their party are saying "let's take four years to regroup and rebuild."
I suspect that even more Republicans will speak up as the election draws near.

he's better at pretending to be a christian and pandering to christians.

Yeah, it's very disappointing when a person presents themselves one way in public then is completely different behind closed doors.

I guess it's all about personal gain for some people. Kissing the right asses to get you to where you want to be. Principles, facts, loyalties be damned.

Definitely would never vote for or be associated with such a spineless individual.

I just saw a Trump ad that told me he's going to "end taxes on social security"....... yet his party wants to end social security.

what are they trying to suggest? that her enunciation was different to normal in the first clip?

insane? not really.

meanwhile...

from much earlier in this thread "Yea cause everyone’s life is better paying almost double for gas and a dozen eggs costing 6 bucks"

"A top company leader at Kroger has admitted during an antitrust trial the company gouged prices on select items above inflation levels.

While testifying to a Federal Trade Commission attorney Tuesday, Kroger's Senior Director for Pricing Andy Groff said the grocery giant had raised prices for eggs and milk beyond inflation levels.

"This is not at all surprising," Drew Powers, the founder of Illinois-based Powers Financial Group, told Newsweek. "Companies across multiple industries have been posting record profits since the COVID-19 crisis while consumers have faced the highest inflation in recent history. The math can only point to companies raising prices above the general level of inflation. As the old saying goes, 'Never let a good crisis go to waste.'"

I didn't have a clue what he was talking about until I saw more stuff in the same vein on the news hours later. Shit's really getting... er

The difference is not extreme and is typical of normal human beings. Our speech patterns tend to emulate the people we are talking to at the moment.

I know it happened to me. As a kid living in Tennessee I'd visit Mom's family in Ohio and my step-dad's family in Alabama. My accent would shift accordingly and it wasn't something I was trying to do-- I'd just notice it now & then. Likewise, I'd talk a little differently when I was with my college friends than I did with my redneck buddies I grew up with.

It seems to me that people are having a hard time coming up with things to criticize Harris and Walz for and now they are grasping at straws.

Yep. Curiouser and curiouser (for want of a better word).
I didn't notice a thing watching the video above until I saw more news on this.

I live in Ohio and worked in Kentucky for years. There is a progression of speech that one will pick up if they move (or work) over the Mason-Dixon line.
First is "biggol", as in, "That's a biggol pickup truck over there."
Second is (of course) "y'all". Everyone says, "you all", but it morphs into "y'all" over time.
Third, this one took me years but I eventually picked it up, is "fixin' to". Yup, after a few years working over the river I was actually saying, "fixin' to".
"I'm fixin' to get started on those parts in a minute."

It's not purposeful, as a matter of fact I resisted it. But, you will eventually pick up the speech patterns of those you are with. It's just more friendly and "comfortable". And I always retained the ability to go back to business English, often going back and forth numerous times within a single day.

Retired for some years now, I'm back to the Ohio drawl as opposed to the Kentucky twang. I lived in New England twice for a number of years each time, don't even get me started on that (it's wicked pissah)

I'm just guessing, but hasn't Kamala lived in California or DC for the vast majority of her life at this point? Her parents are Jamaican and Indian. Where does the accent (or whatever the correct term is) come from?

It's not really grasping at straws, since I don't think something like this would ever change someone's vote. Just highlighting a political absurdity...

I still like Hilliary's better though:

Yep. Whenever I visit my family in Texas I start subconsiously speaking with a drawl, and I have a very vanilla west coast accent. It's natural human behavior.

Well, she lived around the country settling into Cali after college. But, if you are speaking of "black English", it's spoken all over :) It kind of sounds southern sometimes.
I saw a documentary on regional accents once which had a guy who could speak in any US regional accent on demand. He said he absolutely would taylor his speech to the situation. Said he often fell into "southern" when just hanging with friends as it seemed more informal and friendly.

I doubt Harris is doing it purposely, though. Ask any black person if they can turn an accent on and off automatically.
