2024 US Presidential Election

I mean - it's pretty obvious that they are just reciting the star spangled banner but the vocal track came in way late and threw everyone off.

Funny moment? Sure. Evidence of unpatriotic sentiments? Not even a little bit.

Maybe they shouldn't have used a vocal track when people are going to be reciting the national anthem outloud and on mic. Some PA should get fired or at least have a valuable learning opportunity.

brainworms will do that to you, did he ever really think he had a chance?
I think brainworms might be a requirement for Trump's cabinet.

I would wager a paycheck that 95% of Americans do not know all the words to the Star-Spangled Banner-- the only national anthem that ends with a question mark.
It's also notoriously difficult to sing.

(edit) I just tested myself and failed.miserably. I got most of the right words in there, but not in the correct order.
TBF, I hate baseball so I've had to suffer through very few renditions over my 65 years.

At least the first verse ends in a question mark:

Complete version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" showing spelling and punctuation
from Francis Scott Key's manuscript in the Maryland Historical Society collection.

1: O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bomb bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

2: On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
'Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

3:.And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

4: O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - "In God is our trust,"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

indeed.

when i became a u.s. citizen i was happy that i was trading in a national anthem i couldn't really care less about, for the star-spangled banner which i think is a great anthem - upbeat and inspiring.

^ i wonder how many bluelighters would pass :)

i did study for the test but, when i became a citizen i'd been living in the u.s. for over 20 years and my base knowledge was pretty good. when the tester gave me my result, i joked that i knew all the answers because i love the tv show 'the west wing' and she was not amused :)

Jesus christ
They should've nominated Michelle.
She killed it

watched it last night - it was a great speech.

i also saw this which was quite something: Mesa GOP mayor cites John McCain's motto as he urges Republicans to vote for Harris

"Mesa GOP Mayor John Giles, in a prime-time slot at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, made his plea to the Republicans watching to leave tradition behind and vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Giles was the odd man out as he walked on stage in a purple tie, a nod to Arizona’s battleground status. It’s one of the largest political stages he’s stood on.

“I feel a little out of place tonight, but I feel more at home here than in today’s Republican Party,” Giles said. The GOP has been “kidnapped by extremists,” he declared.

Giles invoked the name of Sen. John McCain in his speech and McCain's motto of "county over party." “John McCain’s party is gone, and we don’t owe a damn thing to what’s been left behind,” he said.

He lauded President Joe Biden’s administration and how it “reached across the aisle" to fulfill promises that President Donald Trump "couldn't deliver."

The only national "song" most Americans actually remember is the pledge of allegiance, because they made us sing that bullshit every morning at school.

I guess that technically isn't a song, though.

I prefer Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land.

Or America The Beautiful--  but whenever I hear it or even think of it I always remember George Carlin's version that he sang back in the 1970s--

Oh beautiful for smoggy skies,
insecticided grain
For strip-mined mountain's majesty
above the asphalt plain
America, America,
Man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs
From sea to oily sea!

i just watched trump's speech from nc today.

he whined for 5 minutes about democrats at the dnc taking shots at him instead of talking policy. he literally said "i try and be nice to people". his lack of self-awareness is incredible.

he also tried to claim that he coined the phrase "resolute desk". err, that's what it's called dipshit.

he is fucking losing it.
