2024 US Presidential Election

All I want to know is if there are going to be any bets made. And who makes them. And what the stakes are for the loser.

That will be far more interesting to follow then for which politician I will have to cringe while I am casting my ballot because i'm pretty sure I'm not going to want any of them representing the USA. But my strong desire to always vote keeps me going back every 4 years only to wonder why my right to do so never seems to satisfy me.

I have voted in every election since 1976 and have only felt good about it once or twice. My expectations on who is qualified to run this Country are way too high.

do you remember that thing where you push his head down a peanut came out from under the towel?

I feel like Im in charge of this country, just not getting paid, or stopping the war machine.
Anyway, write in tony ions for president. Because no party will get behind me enough to appear on a ballot.
Make it right. Keep America smart.

Not sure whether I voted for Carter or not. Who did he run against ?

Never was a staunch affiliate of any party. I waffled back and forth between the Dems and Repubs. I would listen to their speeches and try to garner their sincerity and values from that. Then regardless of their affiliation I would vote for them.

Carter ran against Gerald Ford in 1976

I've had a recent fascination with the 1970s...I learned about it in a class I took and it seemed like a lot of crazy stuff happened during that decade, everyone was feeling depressed and crappy and disillusioned all the time, lol...at least that's the popular perception of it. Lot of great art came out then, though, lot of great music, films etc...

I even asked my parents, mom, dad, what were the seventies like? lol They couldn't give me much info, I don't think they remember it that well!

I find it super amusing a lot of lefties are like “I’d rather DeSantis over trump” it’s so obvious they have that opinion cause that’s what they’ve been told to think, I don’t like desantis

I'd rather DeSantis over Trump because I would vote for him, personally. I don't know that I could vote for Trump, but the Democrats will obviously run some hyper-authoritarian figure like Biden or Harris again. I really want someone better than Trump to come forward as the GOP candidate. Is that too much to ask?

No, but I don’t think desantis is that guy

it’s so obvious they have that opinion cause that’s what they’ve been told to think,

why is that always the first place some people go in an argument?

"you only believe that because you've been told to believe that by the media/tv/whatever"

why can't you afford people the simple courtesy of believing that they've looked at the data/issue/whatever and simply come to a different conclusion than you?

if i had a nickel for every time somebody has accused me of just repeating tv i'd have about 3 bucks. i watch pretty much zero tv but people just love to assume and tell themselves they're right.

it makes having a good discussion on issues near impossible.

The establishment is pushing him hard, so I’m definitely against. They have let him do w/e he’s wanted with little protest or push back. The CIA likely groomed him to take on the drumpf threat.

Right, it’s like the media paints trump as the devil incarnate and people hate him, desantis gets painted as a better option and people think he’s a better option…it’s subtle most the time but if you pay close attention you can see what people are “suppose” to think, sure someone could come to that conclusion on their own, I guess that be a…..coincidence

i'm always down to make a bet on the election. once we know who the candidates are, of course.

And who makes them.

i'm happy to bet against anybody except jgrimez who we all know is a liar and a cheat and will not pay up if he loses.

And what the stakes are for the loser.

avatar bet? loser has to change their avatar to one of the winner's choosing for a month?

Honestly if I'd live in the US I would do the same thing I do here:
Not voting at all.
Whatever the result I would feel pretty dissapointed,
but well, that's just me, I guess:pipe:

This is an honest and, sadly, quite sensible decision...:itsfine2:
The only sensible option in current year is to seek out who the banks/establishment are against, and support them in any way you can. Regardless of their political party affiliation. Would be cool to see a anti establishment democratic candidate again.
