Obama fucked the dog on the ACA that is becoming obvious. We need Medicaid for everyone who wants it and private Cadillac insurance for those who want that. Every other civilized country has figured this shit out. why are we such dumbasses? We have infinite money to spend on fighter jets while our people die in poverty. Our priorities as a nation state are so beyond fucked that I don't even know if its possible to unfuck them at this point. When death is your countries main export you know things are bad!

Because he had the audacity to sell his soul to multi-billion dollar corporations, like any good Republican would.

This is what I said. In order to get even the most bare bones iteration of ACA to pass, it had to be written in a very crappy way. Consider for a second that ACA is based on RomneyCare in Massachusetts.

Exactly. The ACA gave me health insurance for a while, but the insurance was so bad that I was paying for doctor to call me once and month and tell me that they are denying service to me. At what price was this service you ask? Raising the rates of all those that had health insurance before it passed. It also gave many corporations the ammo they needed to deny their employees decent hours by claiming poverty due to having to pay for the ACA when in reality it is the middle class that had to shoulder the biggest burden for it. Like I said, it is a good idea. Good ideas cannot heal the sick and level the playing field without proper implementation.

The RNC was a horrible farce. I bet I could get Scott Baio to speak at my house for a couple ginger snaps, a glass of orange juice, and a clean place to sleep for the night (one step above what he gets for donating plasma which is his chief form of income.) The fact that they had someone that hasn't been relevant in over thirty years speak at the RNC shows just how out of touch with modern life that the republicans are. The fact they are doubling down on defunding planned parenthood is indicative of the fact they cannot separate their regressive evangelical views from politics.

Isn't it funny that this is the most anti-LGBT platform that Republicans have come up with and they used "We are the champions"-Queen to bring the donald on stage WWF style?

To any on this board that are not going to vote in the midterm elections, think long and hard about the fact you are voting against your best interests by omission.

That's rather hilarious.

I hope Hillary counters with this:

"Donald Trump will rebuild our military and stand with our allies", mike pence, 7/20/1016

"NATO is the most important military alliance in world history. I want to reassure our NATO allies that if any of them get attacked, we'll be there to defend them.", mitch mcconnell, 7/21/206

"Donald J. Trump, on the eve of accepting the Republican nomination for president, explicitly raised new questions on Wednesday about his commitment to automatically defending NATO allies if they are attacked, saying he would first look at their contributions to the alliance." (source)

i guess trump, his vp candidate and the senate majority leader should maybe get on the same page...

Why not use the quote?

He said so long as they met their obligation to the USA than he would, it is ridiculous that we have to be the military to some of the richest countries on earth while they get away with letting us foot the bill.

maybe you missed where i quoted: "...he would first look at their contributions to the alliance."

here is the text of article 5 of the north atlantic treaty:

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.

there's nothing in there about not helping until we make sure the victim's last invoice is paid :\

on a related note, the u.s. owes the u.n. $3 billion dollars. terrible that the u.s. gets away with letting others foot the bill, right?

The NATO stuff is a nod to Putin that he will stop the Western Establishment's belligerence. With Hillary, war with Russia is a guarantee. Trump wants peace while the Globalists need war to distract and mask their financial crimes and continued exploitation of the masses.

His speech was better, and he is a better speaker, than he gets credit for; though it was a bit on the messianic side. His views are mishmash and it doesn't matter, he will kowtow to his masters, or his soon to be masters, notice a conspicuous lack of Zionists among the long list of people he's offended (with one minor media generated flap excluded.) Nonetheless, soldier on. Anyone but Hilary. Hopefully Trump can defeat or at least troll to death a few of the lesser evils. And Putin is twice the leader of any of our recent presidents and is increasingly providing a counterpoint to our imperialist excesses—with his own brand of imperialism, but nonetheless I like the cut of the man's (Putin's) jib more than any US presidential contender since Buchanan. As I've said anyway I've long since given up hope in the democratic process at least on a national level and view the highly unlikely possibility of a military coup and/or secession of different areas of the country as the only hope for real change (short of some really apocalyptic shit) in my lifetime.

The only time article 51 of the UN agreement has been triggered was 9/11/2001....which was the united states being attacked. Basically, the other countries that have military forces from the united states in them are either in conflict because of the united states "intervention" or are paying us to be there. If you really want to save some money for this country...stop funding the military so damn much. We are overfunding it, way more than is necessary to continue to do what we have been doing. Considering the Military Industrial Complex has a huge lobbying wing, and citizens united exists I do not see a future that we are not using over half our budget on the military. Same with hillary...I see her actually using the military to continue her imperialist agenda.

Both parties have gotten so far away from the original ideas they are based on. Conservatives want fiscal accountability and religious freedom, but they can be bought and sold so easily and are now pushing an evangelical agenda (consider for a fact that in their platform pornography is a huge health crisis)...Democrats were based on the collective idea that if you take care of your citizens your economy will grow....now we have neo-liberals that do not have the citizens in mind when they are taking money from large corporations or creating trade agreements that do nothing but hurt the average worker. We have lost our way, and the average person realizes it but is so caught up in the red shirts v. blue shirts model that they have no idea how to get back to where we once were. If the fact the ticket is trump v. hillary is incredibly indicative of this.

The only time article 51 of the UN agreement has been triggered was 9/11 …

Which was so far from the intent of the document it's preposterous; like trying to create a right to abortion out of the bill of rights (not trolling, don't want to discuss abortion whatsoever, just talking about very expansive interpretations of legal documents and the discontents thereof.) If that's not enough to prove the post USSR NATO treaty shambolic, what is? (The entrance of Turkey would have, but now won't … and if it does, more icing on the shambles.)

But yes. Trump v Hilary. This would've been a bizarre satire or late night comedy not too long ago. Now it's a terrifying reality.

Indeed: The document was supposed to protect against future world wars. The document needs to be revisited since when it was written. Now cyber crime is incredibly dangerous and there is not a lot of recourse countries can take against it.

I don't find this interesting at all; I find it to be cowardly and political personal attacks from a former employee/contractor from a very biased (although at least they're front and center with it) news source, stemming probably entirely from the authors own politics coloring his presentation if not even his perception of his own history with the man.

This contemporaneous Guardian piece, however, by David Eggers after apparently having attended a Trump rally in a rather amusing disguise ("…and a NASCAR cap"), or even parody, of what the Manhattanite literati might consider his base's natural attire, is very interesting; as one might expect well written, but does cover a lot of the one off observational sociciology of the movement quite lucidly and in a very entertaining but never over the top manner.

^ That was a very well written article. Thanks for posting. I've had similar thoughts about his campaign but trouble putting into words.
