Precisely why we have the 14th amendment. They were at the very least god like IMO. Such foresight, such vision! Think about all the failed attempts at civilization before hand. Even the paradise of 15th century annarcho communist France couldn't compare. Still can't say we will last just yet but I know myself and people like me will try to make it last as long as possible while building on our principles to better ourselves in reasonable way.

Okay for the thousandth time you confirm you're a troll. You know the founding fathers weren't immortal right and we had to have a big ol war to change that "strict never changing" constitution to do it. You would have called Lincoln a tyrant for suspending habeas corpeous and been on the side of the confederates with your attitude.

Woodson: Obama had an obstructionist congress to contend with. He pretty much had his hands tied with everything he did. I see the states are ripe for political realignment as evidenced by the fact we have a racist, misogynist that has a creationist that is against women's rights as a running mate on the ticket. If that doesn't show that the states are ready for a drastic change than I don't know what will.

Yes every president has problems. It is true that no one person can know everything, or make the right decisions all the time.

If we had a democratic president, or even a moderate president along with a moderate congress we would have a golden age in which the playing field was leveled. We have problems with taxes. There are too many, and the ones we have are written so corporations and rich people can get out of paying them. At the moment the people that suffer are the middle class (whom are slowly fading into the lower class). Conservatives want to further deregulate or privatize industries. This leads not to innovation but to more wealth inequality and less meaningful, well paying jobs that offer benefits. Are you worried about a democrat's SCOTUS picks? Well just remember who brought those that ruled that money is free speech into play.

Lastly: The constitution is a living document. It was penned so that it can change with the times. If it didn't change with the times chances are most of us would be slaves at this juncture considering most of us are already wage slaves, or dependent on the government.

I task you all with this: Do not look at the parties as whole. Look instead at what each member of the government does. There are ways that you can look up their voting records. You will see trends, and you will realize that we have gotten so far away from what a bipartisan government is about, and gotten into the territory of both parties members actively working to undermine the other which leads to bureaucracy and stagnation. You will notice there are good members of each party, as well as snakes in the grass....case and point Corinne Brown and Pam Bondi. Those are florida legislators. Take the time to get to know who is ruling you.

I just heard that Melania Trump speaks FIVE languages. That's quite a feat, considering our "community organizer in chief" can hardly speak one (see corpsemen). LOL.

I guess he got Obamacare passed under an obstructionist congress :\

He is a good at many things, but is a poor statesman and is purely ideological/ agenda driven. Watching him beg for people to elect Hilary to continue his legacy at that Dallas funeral was pathetic. Should of left politics at the door at an event like that IMO :\

The affordable care act was so watered down. Health insurance companies are some of the largest lobbying groups these days. If republicans did not vote it in then they would be going against some of their largest donors. The affordable care act is a good idea, but is poorly implemented and has made it more difficult for the middle class.

What would have worked is taxing more effectively and using that money to offer free healthcare for everyone. Basically, expanding medicaid.

Really MBC ? I'm the last one to be sticking up for Republicans but the fact is insurance companies wrote it,Big Pharma benefitted and some corporations were exempt from it. The ACA is Obama's baby so how is it the Republican's fault ? Should I quote Ms. Pelosi ?

Obama fucked the dog on the ACA that is becoming obvious. We need Medicaid for everyone who wants it and private Cadillac insurance for those who want that. Every other civilized country has figured this shit out. why are we such dumbasses? We have infinite money to spend on fighter jets while our people die in poverty. Our priorities as a nation state are so beyond fucked that I don't even know if its possible to unfuck them at this point. When death is your countries main export you know things are bad!

The ACA was a gift to Big Pharma and Big Medicine. Don't think for a second it was anything else or Obama was somehow tragically dying on the hill of socialized medicine (which I advocate, btw) and then compromised the ACA.

OK I just have to drop in here and talk about history for a second...

Droppers, never discuss history again. There is so much historical wrongness in this post I don't know where to begin. Your politically on the right track but know where your limitations lie. You embarrass yourself here.

Yes the greatest document ever made that advocates and protects slavery and treats certain people as 3/5 as a person.

Another history failure. The Constitution nowhere advocates slavery and the 3/5 compromise actually gives advantage to the non-slave holding states (and thus was one of many partial antecedents to the Civil War.)

If I were a history professor I would be handing out a lot of D's around here.

I am not, by the way, a strict constructionist "Constitutional conservative," treating the Constitution as if it were holy writ. That is a lot of nonsense and would have appeared so to the Founding Fathers. It has more to do with the advent of very literal Biblical exegesis among evangelical Protestants around the time of the "Second Great Awakening," combined with the practical apotheosis of the "Founding Fathers" about two or three generations after people who actually knew them died out. Constitutional strict constructionism is hyper-Protestantism applied to law.

These days the actual content of the Constitution has more or less been rendered dead letter by way of practically Talmudic interpretation by the federal government and by the Supreme Court. Thankfully we still pay attention to a few of the amendments, although decreasingly so (the first is actually overextended to include things like pornography; the second depends on geography; the fourth is dying an agonizing "death by a thousand cuts" as originally intended and has had frankly bizarre additional content tacked on, cf. Roe, the 9th and 10th, arguably the most important, are dead.)

because having the audacity to even think about helping somebody (unless they're a multi-billion dollar corporation) is SOCIALISM!

alasdair

I wouldn't say the 9th and 10th are dead per se, maybe underutilized. But the most important, you think? What good are unenumerated rights without the freedom of speech or press etc? Same for state's rights and numerated powers.

The first amendment is the flame that cannot be extinguished if we want to keep a healthy bill of rights. Unfortunately it too, has been under attack or misused.
