nobody?

droppers, you have $100 riding on this - what does your trump-wins electoral map look like?

alasdair

Exactly one year ago how many political analysts predicted Trump being competitive let alone winning the Republican nomination?
How many a year ago predicted Sanders wining a third of the states he one?
All bets and rules are off in 2016.

I really wish Trump would have picked Flynn, I never even heard of Pence, but he's a hardcore conservative and imo that is what we need now.

No republican is winning against Hilary. I think trump is our best shot at transforming the Republican Party to be more socially in step with the population. I hope trump
Wins but I'm not particularly cocky at all. You probably have the 100 but I'd gladly pay it for trump to win for the sake of the scotus

I was listening to a GOP convention member about the votes over making the Republican 2016 platform, and he said some interesting things.

For example, he mentioned how this year, trying to amend the plank towards GLBT rights is gaining momentum. It is still failing, but it's getting more votes than last time.

He also mentioned how a poll done by Republicans showed that Gary Johnson was pulling voters away from Trump.

Stuff like that makes me think that the libertarian-leaning caucuses in the GOP will increase in power.

If Trump does lose in November, I suspect we'll see more change in the Republican party than if Trump wins. If Trump wins, then the GOP will conclude things are working. If Trump loses, then the GOP will ask why it is losing voters.

As for SCOTUS, we're screwed either way. I don't see either Hillary or Trump placing judges on the bench that are big protectors of individual freedoms. Instead, Hillary will probably continue with slightly-left-of-center judges and nothing will meaningfully change, and Trump will put more conservative judges on the court which may favor religious discrimination (e.g. reversing the decision on marriage equality). Either candidates' picks will probably be big-business and pro-government.

To be fair Obama came out of left field in 2008 as well, no one thought he would ever win before he started.

The elections themselves tend to go more or less as predicted after the population has chosen the candidates. There's always stuff that isn't predictable though someone could make a huge gaffe a la Palin though Trump seems to be immune to this. Or we could get more terror attacks or an economic crisis that come out of left field. But other than that it's pretty much a clincher that Hillary has it.

The majority of people aren't conservative but I think we need it too not because we really need it but so the Republican party will be so despised it finally dies. No more stalled congress and conservative b.s. it'll be the left and the farther left after 4 years of Trump.

People forget GWB was so hated it led a a good amount of conservatives to support a black man with a middle eastern name.

I would consider Hilary's picks radical as they would for sure have the living breathing document stance. I'm truly voting on the fact that I do not want Hilary picking any scotus members. Gary Johnson is ok, but he could never run this country IMO

As a constitutional conservative I reject the notion that the greatest document ever made was intended to be received differently all willy nilly like each generation. Shall not be infringed is absolute like so many others things. I say this knowing I'm a bit of a hypocrit disagreeing with the anchor baby amendment.

So you would consider Hillaries pick the most constitutional? As the founding fathers intended see article 5.
indeed.

the right which droppers holds so dear - gun ownership - is itself enshrined in an amendment to the constitution. if the constitution was not a living, breathing document able to be changed, you would not have the right to own a gun, droppers.

i guess the irony of that is completely lost on you.

alasdair

oh, i get it. the constitution is written in stone and if a nasty liberal wants to change the 2nd amendment they're evil but if you want to change the 14th amendment you're a righteous warrior.

not very logical.

kthxbye.

also "an act of god"? i wouldn't describe a 2/3rd vote in congress and 3/4ths of the states ratifying as an act of god... those are acts of men and women.

What positive future do you think will result from this far left USA in for years?
What changes are you most looking forward or see as tangible from a super left USA?

I have not forgot the state the country was left in after W and that it had helped Obama, he saved the country from certain economic failure but has really sucked at forcing/forging unity within the country. The speech that propelled him int the spotlight at the 2004 DNC was just feel good bullshit (there isn't a red America or a blue America there is a United States of America) because he has
really dropped the ball on racial unity vs pot stirring and support for groups that are looking more hateful everyday. I really thought he had the power to unite people in 2008, but I guess I got hypnotized by the media.

With that said I feel that the same applies to BHO being so disliked that it leads to a former reality TV star becoming leader of the free world.

I have worked in politics both on a paid and and volunteer basis and I talk to a lot of voters and I have never seen such an exodus of Democrats in my life, the party has been hijacked by progressives that are more extreme than most sensible traditional democratic voters can handle.

I think you'd have to use the living breathing document stance to some degree, as culture shifts and gaps are found in the original document. For example, what counts as a religion for religious freedom? Or how do you define software - as speech, or as a copyrighted work, or just as nothing?

Then lets get it right please you aren't a constitutional conservative you're an article of confederations conservative. Everything you want was in the articles of confederation. The words and actions of the very founders you hold to be next to God totally disagree with what you want.

In many ways they were gods. I'm not very religious but to have such insight and selflesness is a least saint worthy.

Yes the greatest document ever made that advocates and protects slavery and treats certain people as 3/5 as a person. And please don't give me some patronizing b.s. of how the founding fathers laid the groundwork to remove slavery but couldn't in their day. Even the smartest of men are flawed and nothing is perfect. constitutional conservatives twist things to their bias like everyone else.
