1 pill a day - I assume you were taking the very small, round, blue 1mg pills? - is a pretty low dose. Plus etizolam is supposed to be the mildest withdrawal out of the benzo drugs.
Having said that, if you plan to stop cold turkey you will experience rebound anxiety and insomnia (which may well initially be worse than they were before you started taking the drug). I also feel obligated to tell you that there is a not insignificant change of seizure.
I have experienced seizures from alcohol withdrawal myself and they are something you want to avoid at all costs.

Have you thought about taking half a pill a day for a couple weeks? Then maybe 1/4 pill for a couple weeks? and THEN stopping? I think it would help a great deal.

I have never done benzos myself but have been given a baggie of 57 1mg etizolam pills. I'm nervous about trying them; could you describe the effects? Especially if you ever tried them with an opiate?

Yes, the little blue pills...1 gives me just a mellow feeling..slight euphoric feel. Very nice, thanks for the nice reply.

ambien should pretty effectively substitute the etizolam since your etiz dose is small. There will be cross tolerance so only use the ambien sparingly or the WD will still be waiting for you when you cease to administer the ambien.
oxy8, i would place etiz effects as being closest to temazepam but a bit more potent. Having said that, ive only tried etiz once.lol

I've been on Ambient for 5+ years for major insomnia, so its kinda part of my life now...is the Ambient doing anything to keep w/d at bay or just strictly helping me sleep?

wow, thats a longtime to be on ambien. If you are already dependant on ambien and have been using it every day along with the etizolam then you may need to increase your ambien dose slightly or you may have some trouble sleeping for a few days and a little anxiety.
On the other hand, you might have no WD symptoms at all because of the ambien.
Its really just a judgement call, any withdrawal you do get will be at the most, a bit uncomfortable, not dangerous. I would just play it by ear and use the ambien as needed.
Maybe you already know this but i would take ambien OR etizolam and not both on the same day as in theory, due to the cross tolerance, you could raise your ambien tolerance (or vice versa) by using etizolam at the same time. I experienced this first hand with diazepam after using zopiclone for extended periods.

They both bind to the same receptor sites in the GABA complex (mainly the A1 receptor but also to a smaller extent A2, if memory serves) l. In simple terms this means they are interchangable. Like how beer and vodka, although different drinks with different strengths, do the same thing in the brain and have the same effects. This isnt a great analogy but its fine for getting the point across.lol

Your very kind and your welcome! :-)
zolpidem (ambien) is an interesting chemical because although it acts on the benzodiazepine receptors (a1 and a2 as i mentioned earlier) it isnt related structurally to ANY benzo.
Its in a separate class of drugs called Z-drugs. Zopiclone and zalepron are the other two drugs in this unique class.

zolpidem has a super short half life though, i doubt it'll do anything because it'll be long gone from your system by the time you wake up, well not long gone but for the most part gone. Etizolam isn't a benzo either. Zolpidem is primarily a hypnotic and etizolam is more of anxiolytic though it definitely has hypnotic properties. They won't 100% substitute for each other for that reason alone.

anyway just grin and bear it, 1mg/day is absolutely nothing. If you feel like you're going crazy or are getting sick then taper yourself over 3 weeks or so. It's the safest bet anyway to taper but at 1mg/day i just can't see a huge withdrawal happening.

My doc has me on zoloft in the morning and wellbutrin ...would either of those help combat any possible w./d from eti?

wellbutrin is quite stimulating so i would think it would make WD even more uncomfortable. Anti-depressants usually make opiate and benzo(or thieno)diazepine WD worse.
If you have access to lyrica (pregabalin) or to a lesser extent neurontin (gabapentin), they will make your withdrawal alot easier.
I used lyrica to help beat a 3 year addiction to zopiclone so i can attest to this personally
