10mg amitripyline for anxiety

Well thankfully Amitriptyline is dirt cheap so even if it doesn't work for you you probably won't be out anymore then $10.

I have been prescribed it in the past in doses of up to 150mg's (the maximum recommended outpatient dose) for neuropathic pain and also to help the depression part of Bipolar. I found it to work really well for not only 2 of these indications but it is also hands down the best sleep aid i have ever had. Sadly it crapped out on me after about 2 years which really sucked because it did work good.

At 10mg's a day you are hardly anywhere near the anti-depressant dose but i have seen it prescribed in doses of 10mg's for neuropathic pain, migraines and other non psychiatric indications. The lowest dose i have ever taken was 25mg's which went up to 50mg's a day after the first week. As Amitriptyline is a rather strong anti-cholinergic you may get hit with the sedation, dry mouth and other side effects even at that low dose. I have found Amitriptyline as well as another Tricyclic called Trimipramine to be much more tolerable in terms of side effects then just about every other type of anti-depressant i have tried. This depends on what side effects your willing to put up with though as i didn't mind putting up with dry mouth and sedation compared to the awful side effects of say Venlafaxine. Also even though i stopped taking Amitriptyline cold turkey at 150mg's a day after being on it for maybe 2 and a half years i didn't get any withdrawal symptoms which is also a big plus. However i might have just gotten lucky because some people do report withdrawal symptoms that seem to be due to anti-cholinergic rebound effects

It's definitely worth a try in my opinion and really the worst that will happen is it may not work.

didn't work for me, what helped was 200mg opipramol (combined with 10mg aripiprazole). amitryptilin just made me a little sleepy in the beginning.

I find that amitriptyline works best for me when its combined with one or two other drugs, a cocktail so to speak. By itself its sort of shitty(for me, your mileage may vary). When I take it combined with opiates, it works great. If I stack it right with benzodiazepines, it works pretty good. Now if I go Lyrica, amitriptyline and say oxycodone, its the shit. I don't really get that hit or miss problem because I don't take it often enough for it to fade in and out.
I really would like to find out the absolute best way to use it and get the most out of it.

I was prescribed amitriptyline as a sleep aid after a back injury and it made me do just that.
I was pretty discombobulated if I tried to stay awake on it, but never took it consistently enough to develop any sort of actual tolerance. I could maybe how that same dissociative effect could lower anxiety but imo that shit had a 'hangover'. Next day I wouldn't feel fully awake til at least 3 hours after I woke up no matter how much I slept. Try and remember that next time you take it before bed and note your coherence upon awakening. It ruined it for me but maybe it won't affect you like that.

OP, don't be discouraged by the side effect profile. I've noticed that side effects go down after a while. I was prescribed amitriptyline while on pain management. It boosts up opiates quite nicely. Any side effects I had were tolerable. paranoid android was spot on. Keep in mind that you won't know until you try and if it doesn't end up working the way you would like, you can switch to something else.

May I ask why amitriptyline was suggested/prescribed to you in the first place?
