Two Canadian LGBTQ advocacy groups have launched a legal challenge, being processed in court Monday, which seeks to overturn a provincial law they say violates the rights of transgender minors.

The case targets legislation passed by the right-wing provincial government in Alberta that sets new restrictions on the care health professionals can provide minors who identify as transgender.

Alberta’s Bill 26, which became law last week, bans sex reassignment surgery on minors and bars the use of puberty blockers and hormone therapies “for the treatment of gender dysphoria or gender incongruence,” for anyone 15 and under.

But talks over the 1,800-page-plus text were complicated by a last-minute Republican intervention to prevent the military’s health program from covering gender-affirming care for children of service members if it results in “sterilization.”

“Citizens don’t want their tax dollars to go to this, and underaged people often regret these surgeries later in life,” Nebraska Republican Don Bacon told CNN. “It’s a bad hill to die on for Democrats.”

The must-pass NDAA — a bill that Congress has sent to the president’s desk without fail every year since 1961 — cleared the chamber in a 281-140 vote and now moves to the Senate, with final passage expected next week

President Trump is expected to sign an executive order Monday barring transgender people from serving openly in the military, part of a broader effort to crack down on what his administration has described as “gender insanity” in the federal government.

Trump on Jan. 20, during his first hours in office, revoked an executive order signed by former President Biden in 2021 that allowed transgender people to serve and prevented the military from discharging soldiers because of their gender identity. Trump also signed a sweeping executive order recognizing only two genders, male and female

"vast majority of kids"

vast majority of trans people do NOT detransition, so i'm sure they have some really good data to back up that transphobic crap... and that's just the one i accidentally glanced at right when i clicked on this thread

does that executive order mean no taxpayer money (ever ever ever) going to the unneeded ritual of infant genital mutilation called "circumcision", too??

cause that would be awesome.

one thing i always have trouble with...

why are all of the treatments lumped together?

someone might not be ok with surgical removal of a child's genitals before they can consent, but also not want to ban hormone therapies... but the transphobes always seem to lump the things together, wanting to ban any and all trans care
