I went to the Toronto pride festival in the 90's and it was great. Everyone loving each other, now it's 50 year old men flashing their junk to kids

I would focus more on the "school board genital inspections" to "determine if a child is trans" as an example of Florida Republican legislation promoting grooming and pedophilia.

Florida’s new ban on transgender students in sports would allow schools to subject minors to genital inspections

dude, i know you know the genocidal con-serv-o-turds want to make lists of all trans people including trans children, you can't be so in denial that you think this is isn't a system meant for abuse. florida is one of the biggest places in the u.s. for cultural genocide against trans people.

Maybe they should all move to Yemen or Gaza where they would be accepted and loved.

What is trans culture and how does Florida genocide it? I mostly stay in the woods up north and try not to pay attention to whatever is going on in Florida or with trans ppl but genocide sounds bad, can you explain it to me please?

Looks like this is from 2023.
I was in the US at the time so I wasn't there.
I agree that public nudity is unacceptable, yeah.

Regardless, Pride is not an event for corporations or children.
Pride began with trans women throwing bricks at police officers (Stonewall).
This shouldn't be a corporatized family friendly event, this should be a place for people (not fully nude) to celebrate their sexual and gender identities rather than Lockheed Martin celebrating how many people they killed this year but with a rainbow in the background.

FYI, this isn't a new thing.
Nudity @ Toronto Pride has been going on for at least a decade.
The faux outrage is just happening now because the trans panic has reignited homophobia.

I will say that I do understand the argument for allowing nudity, even if I have very mixed feelings (leaning towards against) on it:
Our elders don’t cling to convention; they run from it. And for good reason. In 1981, on a taxpayer-funded mission estimated to have cost a quarter of a million dollars, police carrying crowbars and sledgehammers raided bath houses in Toronto’s gay village, forcing nude and nearly naked men onto the streets, where more than 300 LGBT people were arrested. Bik describes the night as “terrible.” Anyone wondering why some gay people at Pride are so “in your face” should look to events like these for an answer. There was a time when we weren’t in anyone’s face, but everyone was in ours. Hence the naked marching: When you can’t express yourself safely in private, there is no act of civil disobedience more powerful, I’d imagine, than doing so in public.

This isn't a new thing, homophobia is just 'in' again amongst the right.
It's kinda like fashion trends.
When they can't find a new issue to distract us from how badly they are fucking us over on actual issues (e.g. civil liberties, housing, adequate healthcare funding, the economy), they just recycle an old culture war issue - the Libs and Cons both.

Maybe I read this wrong, but I thought it said the physical would be done by the child’s healthcare provider? The headline reads as though the school would be doing it. That was my interpretation?

Now it is fetishists on leashes barking and people literally fucking each other in the street in front of huge crowds. If you give me permission I can link plenty of examples. They are disseminated on X and various other porn sites. It occurs at events labeled as pride. Often times there are children in the vicinity.

Am I saying every single pride event is like this? Nooooo.

Personally, if pride events exist in public, they SHOULD be family friendly. Otherwise they are counterproductive to progress on a wide scale.

Nevertheless, it is. They use public spaces and do not properly secure them from children attending.

I would love to see contemporary examples of this. Genuinely curious. Other than extremely fringe religious groups, I haven't heard rhetoric like this in the mainstream since I was in high school.
 
you make a good point @mal3volent - it's been a while and i may be conflating. but...

here's a tangential example: "Yeah well I'm not the one shoving my ideology in everyone else's face on international TV am I."

it's pretty silly to say that when your tv has a button you can use to change the channel.

and the original comment - "50 year old men flashing their junk to kids" - makes a passive act sound active. i get that some people have an issue with public nudity but i also don't think a child will be scarred for life just by seeing a penis (or a vagina or breasts) in public at a pride event.
