GENERAL PHILOSOPHY
This forum "Current Events and Politics" (aka "CE&P") exists to provide Bluelight members with an interesting, enjoyable, and welcoming medium to discuss current events and politics in a manner consistent with Bluelight's harm reduction mission. To this end, discussions and topics are moderated firmly and as sparingly as possible. To preserve and enhance the value of CE&P for the members of Bluelight, forum guidelines apply. CE&P thrives as a result of the contributions of Bluelight members, and we endeavor to enable all Bluelight members to benefit from and enjoy the various discussions.
First and foremost, the Bluelight User Agreement (BLUA) applies and is the final word on the rules which apply to this, indeed all, Bluelight forums.
FORUM GUIDELINES
CE&P is a place for formal, serious, and in-depth discussions. There will be a lot less tolerance for personal insults, off-topic bantering, nonsense, trolling, and conspiracy theories. For more casual discussions, jokes, memes, theories, and things of that nature use the social thread in the forum or post in a more appropriate forum.
DON'T RESORT TO PERSONAL ATTACKS - There is zero tolerance for ad-hominem attacks in this forum. If you are challenged by the opinion of someone else in a particular matter, respond to the opinion and not the poster. Poor debaters resort to this because they can't mount a proper response. We want to maintain respect for each other in this forum.
This applies to thinly veiled ad-homs e.g. "If you believe Biden won the 2020 election fair and square, you're a moron" in response to a post claiming Biden won in 2020. If you believe that the 2020 election was not won by Biden (for example) then make your case.
CEP&S SPECIFIC BANS - Any violation of these guidelines can result in an informal warning, a formal warning, a formal infraction and could result in a CE&P-specific ban. This will remove your privilege of posting in the CE&P forum. You will still be allowed to post in other Bluelight forums, but your privilege to post in CE&P will be suspended for an amount of time that is determined by the forum staff.
ON-TOPIC POSTS - Remember that each individual thread has a specific topic. Although some threads can be fairly broad in nature due to the topics discussed, the bulk of forum threads are not all encompassing off-topic or social threads and the content of your posts should remain on-topic.
VIOLENCE, DISCRIMINATION, & PREJUDICE - You may not threaten violence against or wish serious harm or death upon any specific individual or a group of people, whether it is directed at a poster here, a public figure, or someone in your personal life. We also prohibit the glorification of violence against people who were targeted on the basis of their race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, political affiliation, age, disability, serious disease, etc., in alignment with BLUA #4.
This forum can conduct productive and illuminating discussions about race, racism, prejudice, and stereotyping. Anything that veers into the realm of insulting language against groups of people will not be tolerated, here or anywhere on Bluelight. You all know what this means, as we presume you are adults. If you have any hesitation or doubts about whether your post might be insulting to a group of people, err on the side of caution and contact the forum staff for advice before posting.
Discrimination, prejudice, stereotyping, and insults against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, political affiliation, age, disability, serious disease, etc AS STATED ABOVE will not be tolerated AT ANY POINT. And any attempts to do any of this will lead to either forum specific bans, or infractions.
NEW THREADS - Before posting a new thread, check through the forum, or use the search engine to check to see if there is already a thread on this topic. If there is already an existing thread on the topic and you decide to post a new thread anyway, it will likely be merged with the existing thread. If you decide to continue spamming new threads on the same topic, or repeatedly disregarding this rule, the forum staff may moderate and/or infract accordingly.
VIDEOS - If you are going to post a video to start a new thread, please provide some context for it, whether it's your opinion on the subject, or an analysis of prevailing viewpoints. Please don't spam threads with off topic or out of context videos.
SOURCES/LINKS - Please provide links to all articles, either at the top following the headline and publication, or preferably at the bottom. If possible, remove ads and other irrelevant detritus from the article for ease of reading. Try and provide context to any article or link that you decide to post as opposed to just posting something completely without context.
TAKE IT EASY - Don't take post or posting in the forum too seriously. While it's good to be passionate about what you believe, in CE&P no one knows your real name, knows what you look like, and chances are you'll never physically meet.
So if you find yourself getting too upset or overly emotional about someone's response to your post, sit back, relax, and remember that it's probably a better thing to make your mark in real life than in here.
REPORTING POSTS - If you see personal attacks, spam threads, racial slurs, articles without links, inappropriate images, etc., use the REPORT feature. It's the little "exclamation point" in the lower left corner of each post. Please don't abuse this feature, for example to complain that someone disagrees with you so they must be an idiot. Use common sense.
TROLLING & BEING AN EDGELORD - This forum isn't for "the lulz". It's meant to be a more serious sub-forum where we can have in-depth, intelligent, and friendly conversation about current events and politics. This is not a platform for bullying, harassment, or otherwise being an internet douchebag. So please, if you are having the urge to do so, take it to another forum e.g. The Lounge.
All decisions regarding content moderation is in the hands of the forum moderators, senior moderators, and administrators on our staff.
