Opioids Baking Soda to Potentiate Methadone??

So using baking soda or Fluvoxamine to potentiate your dose for lets say a month might increase your benefit from 10-15%. I you get 100 mg of methadone that's 10 -15 mg, that should be enough to cause mild with drawls if you stopped potentiating one day from another. Of cause it requires that you take a significant dosage of methadone. 200 mg of methadone would be 20 - 30 mg. Have anyone tried this and experienced with drawls?

I have tried all kinds of potentiating opiats and opioids, I never feel anything really working.

I find a normal dose of dxm and Zantac work a little but not to much. I don't chase the high no more though. I'm just thankful to be pain free and not dope sick

You have no idea how glad I am to have found this! I live in the United States so central standard time I have been on methadone for five years now my dose hasn’t been holding me and I am pouring sweat by 10p and waking up miserable. No one can answer my ? On if you donate plasma (seeing as they let you here, we’ll dont ask you if your on methadone I should say) and I have an appt to donate tonight and am scared shitless I’m gonna be hella sick way more then usual but I need the extra cash cause I have two toddlers less then a year apart! I’ve already been tested and am percent clear of any and all diseases I got extremely lucky

This should work whether you're on maintenance, or just using liquid methadone as your drug of choice.

It's well known that methadone absorption is very strongly affected by acid content of the stomach. In fact, it has been said that an acidic stomach can potentially cause you to lose as much as ONE THIRD of your dose! Naturally, many people already know that taking antacids before their methadone will often result in increased efficacy and duration.

However, I find this to be hit or miss; liquid methadone is absorbed fairly quickly since it doesn't need to be dissolved. Taking a few Tums might not get the stomach alkaline enough to effectively absorb more methadone, and pills like Zantac may not either - especially since timing is always an issue. So here's what you do: right before taking your liquid dose, dissolve one to two teaspoons of baking soda into a cup of water (preferably flavored, as it tastes like shit). If you do this about 5-10 minutes before dosing, it should make a huge difference.

When I tried this, I actually got quite high from my daily dose for the first time in awhile. Almost enough to actually nod. Not only that, if you follow my posts, you probably know that I have issues with it wearing off too quickly, to the point where I can be in fairly brutal withdrawal by the next morning, and potentially much worse if I miss even one day. Last night was brutal, for example; I had doubled my dose for more efficacy, however I was so sick overnight, I was pouring sweat while shivering at the same time and basically had to force myself minute by minute to relax as much as possible and wait for the pharmacy to open.

Yet when I did the baking soda trick, nothing whatsoever happened. While no longer feeling it the next day and certainly no longer high, it lasted MUCH longer and saved me from a very unpleasant withdrawal. The day after getting "high" from it, I simply felt completely normal.

I hope people try this and report back on this topic; this could potentially really help many people who have been on MMT for years and have built enough tolerance to feel slightly sick too quickly, yet can no longer really increase their dose.
Hi my name's Tim. The first time I tried this I only put a little in the bottle of water I had. It was right before going in to get my meds. Anyways I come out and get in my car and for a couple minutes, I felt like I was about to throw up which for anybody that uses methadone knows this is a big no no. Anyways then it went away and for most of the day I was feeling a lot better plus I was nodding off a lot too. But after that your good. Im on my third day and I used a regular spoons worth in my bottled water and yes he's right, it does taste like pooh. But anybody on Methadone should give it a try as long as you dont have health issues like heart problems or high blood pressure. But do it a little before you take your meds and you'll notice the difference. Thanks, have a good day

I realize this is an ancient post and I hope I don't get a spanking but I think it's worth trying, so I'll be giving it a crack in the morning and will get back with results. Good or bad. Cheers.

Sodium bicarbonate has some benefits of it's own too, partly via sodium but bicarbonate also. It's so common that most people dismiss it.

There's other ways to potentiate methadone (and all opioids for that matter). I compiled this guide which lists the key OTC items that potentiate opioids, mitigate their harmful effects and reduce accumulated tolerances. No expensive or experimental items.

I have tried both antacids and the recommended 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda multiple times since the previous post and although the results were varied it's definatly worth while, The onset was stronger and more prolonged, like I said it's hard to get it right every time due to varied diet and timing, I recommend people give it a shot. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Tried this, I'll let you know

I’ve tried WHITE grapefruit juice (from concentrate McCain) which is a potent CPY3A4 enzyme inhibitor

Which reduces the metabolism & clearance of Methadone….so higher levels of Methadone will be present for a longer time. This could be dangerous in opioid naive individuals as some/most DDI’s can be

For opioid tolerant individuals only. I would consume half a can of frozen slush (thawed to room tempt) half an hour prior to my 80mg drink…..and it felt more pronounced. Its obviously more than placebo effect as medical studies tested these and measures Methadone serum levels before and after, against controlles, etc

Several OTC medicines are potent inhibitors of CPY3A4 (same liver enzyme responsible for metabolizing Methadone) which leads to moderate to significantly higher serum levels of Methadone in subjects

I was on 80mg back then……Fck all that silliness ….a dose increase will suffice. Currently taking 100-125mg daily of oral tablets X 30 days …..less headaches than oral drink B.s. carries etc……now a higher dose of monthly tablets

Works for me

Wow, I never heard of this lil trick when I was on methadone maintenance. Wish I had lol. Interesting. Thanks for posting.
