I’ve always heard people talk about the famous ‘bellringer,’ and I think I may have felt a small version of it once a long time ago when smoking crack. I usually prefer methamphetamine, but a friend recently had some cocaine that looked unbelievably clean and perfect. I saved a little for myself and thought, ‘Why not?’ So I mixed it with water and injected it. What hit me was a very intense bellringer — so intense that I started feeling scared and uneasy. It kept getting stronger, louder, and more overwhelming. I’m sure other people have experienced something like this or can relate. I’m just wondering: is that a sign that something bad is about to happen, is it your body warning you that you’re crossing into dangerous territory, or is it simply a side effect of the cocaine?

A "bellringer" is an indication of extreme changes in your body. It coincides with increases heart rate, blood pressure etc.

It is possible to overdose on Cocaine. To put it in simple terms, a bellringer is a place on a continuum that ends with an overdose.

We know that putting stress on the cardiovascular system comes with both acute and chronic complications. Different people with different histories will have different respective tolerances to these stressor.

In short, it is likely an indication of serious stress on your heart which is not good.

My understanding is that the ringing is actually caused by a spike in blood pressure, I used to shoot coke daily but it’s been years since I’ve done that so I forget exactly.

But yes it’s bad for you, when I shot coke the way I always explained it was you’re trying to get close as possibly to overdosing without overdosing

When I first started smoking crack I would get amazing about bell ringers, over time that disappeared and I would just get a pleasurable physical Rush

I IV’d coke and the bell ringers were incredible. They definitely were toeing the line of fun and dangerous. I nearly seized twice. Took benzodiazepines in time to stop it. Be safe and WEIGH your shot if you’re going to do it this way.

That's exactly how I remember them. The shot just keeps getting more intense and more intense, and you start to question did you shoot too much? Was this the one time that you put a little too much into cooker? And then it subsides, and you realize you're good. Scary ass shit. Sometimes I still can't phantom how much I would play with my life like that, knowing that I was tinkering on the borderline of OD, but still putting the same amount in trying it again.

To answer your question, yes it's your body telling you that you've pushed the envelope a bit far, and while you're safe on this hit.. maybe the next one won't be so forgiving. Bellringers are a gift and a curse, I used to love when I could achieve one.. but dread how close to potential OD I was tinkering with.

Injecting Coke is dangerous business it's not worth it. Just snort it.

Well said I went over to .20 when I’d get my desired effects with .19 and almost went out had to do some serious breath work to stay present best feeling but also scariest

So now that you got a bell ringer.. how you not going to do it again? A bell ringer is pretty much almost OD on iv coke.. no shit it’s scary.. shit gets ugly quick. Did you fall in?

like it gets real ugly. hell type shit.. if there is a God it’s like they totally abandon you for ten minutes and then you go again.

Just drop it.. meth will overpower it.. a better solution is dexamp. You’re likely in for a hell ride.

For other people just leave that shit alone.. 4 real you will find yourself in one of the worst imaginable places.. seconds or more of the most extreme pleasure followed by minutes of very intense hell. That’s just the way it is.. it’s insanity but many people end up doing this to the tune of life changing money and that’s the cheapest price people pay.

Just leave it alone.. that rush is so powerful but uncontrollable and absolutely not worth it.. but once you do it you can be really fucked.

There are only three things i’d go back and choose not to and this would be one. A bellringer is so powerful you can totally fuck yourself in one shot. Just, you know curious about how it feels.

if you leave it alone you will love yourself for it. You won’t even know how smart you were!!!

Well put @neversickanymore

We tend to think money is everything, especially so as substance users/addicts. More drugs means more happy, more money means more drugs, right? I tell people all the time, when I was in Asia in different places, the concept of not having enough money for Heroin just disappeared as it was so cheap and accessible. I had already been an addict for 7+ years when I ended up there teaching. I had run long enough to know "if I have unlimited Heroin, all of my problems will disappear" - in my junkie brain, I'm telling you, I saw myself as a Father, kids, the respect of my community etc. all if I could just not have to worry about Heroin anymore

Cocaine is obviously a completely different drug and though I have plenty of experience, it was never really my thing. I know that as an addict in general, I understand 100% what it means to literally aim for the closest point to death without dying or getting injured. I know what it's like to feel like you're gonna die from a Cocaine injection and be ready for another one two minutes later. Heroin and Cocaine are not the same drug though. There are functional limits to how much dope an Opiate addict will use. They don't "need" anymore.

With Cocaine, I have watched one person spend his entire 55,000 inheritance in the course of a long weekend and to see him begging for change on Tuesday morning. He had owed me 60 bucks forever. Nope, didn't even have the 60 to pay me back. This dude was like "apartment, boat, jet ski, car. I just want to buy a gram of Crack for old time's sake first". I knew at that moment he was gonna fuck himself. I truly was not anticipating the burning of 55,000 in just a few days.

In short, my experience with Cocaine is that the only limit to a person's intake is their wallet and the ruggedness of their cardiovascular system.

Last bellringer was 36 years ago. I remember I did that a few times in one night. IV cocaine. I remember one time I fell against a wall I was so high and flying, thought that could be the end of me, worried about dying but it passed and i repeated it like a true addict. Have not had cocaine in over 30 years. Had a 3 year cocaine habit until it ended up being opiates after I stopped cocaine. It was not easy, but this was the 80's, MDMA was coming out and took my mind off of cocaine.

Anyone ever get a cannabis bell ringer? You know that one hit where you know you are not taking another and it floors you.

I guess it was time when cocaine was expensive or just madness... I've seen loads of money spent over a weeken probably 2-3 thousands euros at that's smoking 12 g in less than 24h

But definitely a drug that will knock you down and leave you with nothing but pure pain

For a while when trying to chase the bell ringers I would sit outside an ER with 911 failed and ready to go and hope for the best was fortunate enough to be able to control my breathing but damn that was a crazy time….
