Kratom

right now i think they’re just focusing on synthetically produced 7-OH, pseudo, mgm-15, mgm-16, and (idiotically) SR-17018. it seems they’re letting regular ole kratom leaf stay. in fact there were a number of kratom companies lobbying to get 7-OH banned. in fact, some kratom companies have made large donations to RFK. so i dont think regular kratom is going anywhere, it’s got people in the pockets of some of the people in charge.
 
I think the Federal laws are directed only at 7 oh products, not leaf. Not sure about other extracts/derivatives. On the other hand, apparently California has banned the sale of all kratom related products including leaf. Possession is still not illegal. But then again, some cities have banned even possession, including San Diego, LA, and Sacramento. A lot of variation of laws, just in the state. When I saw that the law passed, I ordered some leaf powder online, which was not illegal for me to do, nor is it illegal for me to possess. I suppose the company shipping it could have gotten in trouble, but they were in a state where it is fully legal.
Tldr: it's complicated, but I'd say 7oh will not be legally available, whereas leaf will vary from state to state

Yeah, Markwayne Mullin, formerly senator from Oklahoma, now head of Homeland Security, has a lot of money invested in a company that makes kratom-kava drinks. He's been lobbying for them to stay legal, but not 7oh, which is a competitor with his product
 
It looks like it's coming in August. But I don't see anything in the wording about SR-17018... maybe I'm missing something there ( are you sure about that @lexxbell ?)
In any case that sucks if you have a 7 oh habit to kick. Good luck. ❤️

yes, it’ll be schedule 1 by next month. the DEA released a notice of intent to temporarily emergency schedule it. currently the DEA’s original intent to schedule is undergoing a mandatory 1 month long period for public comment. once that ends, at the beginning of august, the DEA can place an emergency 2 years scheduling on it until they come to an official decision. the DEA has put out an intent to temporarily schedule it when the period ends. there’s a snowball’s chance in hell they go back on it. it’s going to be schedule 1 next month, so you will no longer be able to legally get it. all the smoke shops near me all having mega deals trying to unload the product before next month.

the DEA put out a separate notice of intent for that one. it’s also going to be on a temporary emergency scheduling. you can see the notice here. the DEA is required to give a 30 notice before acting on it, which is why it’s a notice of intent. after 30 days from the notice they can act on it and schedule it.
 
Yeah, even with a new administration in 2028, I don't see them reversing on 7oh and such. Kratom itself is at risk, the way things are going.
Maybe 7oh will end up a black market drug. Could it compete against fentanyl?

i could see it happening. it’s not the most complicated synthesis in the world. most of the time regular mitragynine is the starting chemical and it’s converted into 7-oh. similarly for the mgms, 7-oh is the starting chemical. i could see it becoming black market, tho i dont know that it would be big. i certainly dont think it’d replace fent, if it becomes a common enough black market product, might get some people off it. tho i do think 7-oh becoming scheduled is gonna lead to a lot of deaths from individuals moving to black market goods and not knowing what they’re dealing with. going from 7-oh, that causes no respiratory depression/typical ODs to black market opioids that they’re naive to. people are gonna try fent laced oxy presses thinking they need a higher dose cause of their 7-oh tolerance and OD.
