Soccer World Cup

Here's the world cup thread.
There are a number of matches being played in the major cities by us.
Philly NY and I think even Boston has some matches.

I see where the next world cup. 2030 is being hosted by three countries as well. Portugal, Morocco, and Spain.

How is brazil doing? WIth no knowledge whatsoever (well beyond cliche) I bet they beat youse guys.

I am firmly rooting for scotland over brazil for goofy heritage reasons ... but isn't brazil "The yankees of soccer"?

I haven't followed closely lately but I think they're kind of re-tooling. Growing up they had some amazing teams, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo Nazário, Ronaldinho, Kaká.

They currently have Neymar Jr. But I think lack the typical depth.

I always considered England a powerhouse but I guess they haven't won since 1966. No one country has really had a stranglehold on winning throughout history but Brazil certainly pops up a lot

The first world cup I remember watching was 1994 when it was hosted by the US. They had a round of 16 match against Brazil who won 1-0. Then went on to win the cup that year.

That was the first one I remember as well. I think it is considered one of the most successful world cups (financially and attendance wise at least).

Would love to see USA make a push this go, but I'm not holding my breath. The sport has certainly started churning out some excellent players in the last 20 or so years.

It's expanded too this year. 48 counties playing.
The 2010 world cup I watched in the psych ward. Was in for 51 days and the cup was in that span.

i had just moved to the u.s. in 1993 and was living in boston then.

i went to see greece vs. nigeria at foxborough.

the atmosphere was incredible - absolutely electric.

a little bit but more into indie rock and such.

my first american girlfriend was in a band and was immersed in the music scene. i remember going out to music events a lot - many times a week. we were friends with a lot of local bands including bim skala bim, fuzzy, juliana hatfield, belly, etc.

quite coincidentally, one of the first gigs i remember going to in boston was teenage fanclub! i was excited to find they were playing very soon after i arrived in the u.s. yo la tengo opened for them.

You were friends with belly? That's rad. Did you feed the tree?

my gf and i were in a theatre group called acme theatr.

first time we met, one of the other actors was a guy called dean who played bass for juliana hatfield three. one night after a show he introduced me to his gf, tanya. took a while for the penny to drop :)

Brazil v. Morocco in Jersey Jun 13. I wanna go. Tickets start at $1200 tho. and crypto is down atm.

well, scotland is top of the table with 3 points. morocco and brazil are 7th and 6th ranked in the world so we got tough games coming up. the 3 points from the win against haiti could prove huge.

i watched netherlands vs. japan yesterday and it was very entertaining.
