Disposing of big NOS canisters in the UK

Hi EADD friends, after a few years of occasional NOS use, I have 10 or so empty 640g NOS canisters that I need to get rid of. I took them to the tip and they wanted to charge me £10 a canister so that's clearly a non starter, additionally my social consciousness is such that I can't bring myself to dump them in a hedge.

Any suggestions for how to get rid of them? Even the scrappy that comes round wouldn't take them, and he is a real dodgy fucker.

Have you searched 'recycle 640g NOS canisters in wherever you live'?

I also despise all forms of fly tipping, but if you've tried 3 times, or 3 different things, to do things the right way, but it was no go, you can't do much more than that :?

Just dump them in someone else's black bin, hide them under a load of crap. If the bin lorry explodes, and takes half the street down with it, it wasn't my idea :ROFLMAO: .

(But seriously, if you're at all mechanically / physics minded you might work out a way of slowly releasing any residual gas to reduce any explosion or fire hazard risk.)

just open the valve and let them vent out until empty

give the manufacturer a ring and see if they recycle, cylinders are build like tanks and often reusable, the manufacturer might just take them back

Find a big open space with an absence of people and line em up. Get a friend with an air gun and play a game of tin can alley. There you go, vented. Stick em in a recycling bin somewhere.

Assuming manufacturers don't want em back.

I'm confident they're all empty, I vented them out via a balloon and my lungs. I think even if I say they are empty they still have to go to a special recycling place.

I could definitely try the manufacturer though. The dodgy scrappy said if they were cut in half he could take them, might take quite a bit of cutting though.

Maybe my conscious can accept putting empty canisters in a public bin, I can fit one up my sleeve and slide it in there all discreet like.

cutting them in half isn't as hard as it sounds.

decent angle grinder, get a good quality disc though.

fucking ball ache mind you, will take ages, I'm putting those fuckers in the loft and forgetting about them

maybe weld them together and sell as modern art?

Just take the valve out and they are regular mild steel. (about 8 cents a pound in the US)
Without a valve, there is no discussion about what gas might have been in there at some tome and the explosion danger is gone.

I'll see if I can do this, would be easier than cutting them up.

Basically, they’re considered hazardous waste so you need to find a specialist recycler. Please do - don’t just dump them ❤️
Definitely not dumping them, I think the reason for the hazardous definition is the chance of them being pressurised, it's frustrating because I know they aren't pressurised. Of course that's not how these things work! I'll sort it somehow, thanks everyone ❤
