Birds are becoming more interesting to me.

They have a great view of our world, and I've learned they can see more of the light spectrum than we can - so a great view in both ways. Makes me wonder what they know.

Clearly they can make good messengers, which means their sense of direction and ability to learn is very good.

It's interesting how their movements can be so quick, too. Like when they look around it's pretty much always being their head on a swivel. And of course humming birds, just very quick movements. But aside from that they seem to have a pretty chill life by gliding in the wind and perching up on buildings.

And have they escaped the food chain? If so, good for them. They've been around for a long time too. And they don't kill each other like we do as far as I know.

What do you know about birds?

Hummingbirds don't fly in flocks, but if you have hummingbird feeders in the country like 20-30 of them will show up all at once, so maybe we've just never recorded a flock of hummingbirds

Very little. I did have a semi-mystical-feeling experience with a golden eagle once though decades ago which remains an ultra-vivid memory.

I have a heavily autistic friend however who can identify almost any bird he hears just by their vocal sounds which always shocks me somehow

Edit - oh and I had a budgie when young which killed itself by gorging on 'Alpen' cereal. We found it dead and grotesquely bloated in the cereal box. Not a clever bird it would appear, although perhaps Alpen is like budgie-crack and the little (then huge) fella just couldn't control his intake, who knows

Would you mind sharing? Id be very interested to hear.

Because for some reason, maybe it's just one of those being attentional with ones thoughts and mindful, but I feel like when I'm in a very peaceful mindset I see birds more often. And their chirpings are less violent, as if saying "don't worry about him".

Was approaching dusk and I was walking along the banks of a very picturesque river in the far north of England, very close to Scotland.

I'd just finished a hash joint and was stood leaning against a beautiful tree. Was one of those perfect moments where everything was still, even time seemed to freeze, and then this huge (unmistakably) golden eagle flew silently and effortlessly a few feet abvove the river, literally following it's course (can't remember if it was flying (well, gliding) up or down stream though. Watched it's flight for maybe 60 meters and it passed within 4 meters of my head. Can still see it clearly now in my minds eye a good 40 years later.

Btw I've had many beautiful experiences/connections with animals when my vibe has been super-chilled - they 100% behave differently in that scenario, no doubt whatsoever about that. This experience with the eagle was just coincidence though I reckon.

Yes I felt like I was more in tune to my cat whenever I was stone.

Thank you for the story and if you have more about animals I'd like to hear those too just because I don't think humans are as above animals as we think 😅

I know I like 'em.

I have 3 bird feeders & 2 watering stations at home. At work I feed 'em out back-- heels of bread, whole wheat only.

Hell yeah.. commercials on TV really pushing that real-food niche for animals. Can't say I disagree. Just expensive

At home I feed them sunflower seed (40lbs for $20). Not bad. A bag lasts a couple months since I got squirrel-resistant feeders.

At work I tear up the bread heels that would've been thrown away (free!) but it's good bread, not cheap! I use only whole wheat. White bread is not particularly good for birds (or  us, for that matter).

i was sitting by the water the other day when a goose waddles up to me and kisses my hand with its beak

We have peregrine falcon ,they can fly 200 mph,and we have lil rock nests

out on the beach full of plover hatchlings.Morro Bay is a bird sanctuary, all the owl, pelican, heron are amazing to watch, kayaking is huge here in the bay,so much wildlife but watching the raptors enthralls us.

Nice, birds will definitely check that out

I was walking by a reservoir last week and there were lots of birds. I just stood there in the sun looking through this outlook, not really following one particular bird but just observing with my eyes, head mostly still.

I think a lot of us think that a lot of information we get in the world is linear or instant. But I believe a lot of information comes in "packs" so to speak, or like a scenario that unfolds, or maybe a lot of things happening at the same time that tell a story.

So, for that reason, I just sort of observed without focusing on any one particular thing aside from it being a sunny day and away from humans and into the wild, for the first time in a long time

Thanks. :mindblown:

That was Nice !
