How much water do you drink a day?

oh hang on, here we go!

mines always number 1 or 2. apart from when im hungover. result

yeah mine's generally 1 or 2 unless i had certain kinds of energy drink or some kinds of vitamins like the chart says. nothing i'm taking right now though.

I still can't see a difference between one and two. 8( Either way, my urine is normally one, two, or three. Unless I haven't been drinking the amount of water I normally drink, then it's about a four.

I love that we are all talking about urine now :D

I am studying nutrition and dietetics and my lecturer said that anything around the 3 you are perfectly good, its when it starts looking more brown that there is a problem.

Sometimes though if you take vitamins (b for example) it will show as 4 and bright/fluro - but you still may be perfectly hydrated :)

I'm studying Dietetics as well and a professor always told us that, "if your urine looks like you squeezed a lemon into the toilet bowl, you're hydrated." :P It's amazing the differences between professors.

i don't remember what it was that i ate or drank, actually it might have been in china, but one time my piss was green.

2 - 4 litres a day of bottled water.

Always at least 2, but on a hot day i easily drink 4. My pee on that chart is probably 1 or 2

Lol, did you eat a lot of spinach or asparagus? When I eat a lot of green vegetables all at once (I'm talking more than two cups of just greens), my urine has a faint green color. It's definitely green though! And after eating a lot of beets (again, talking more than two cups of just beets) my urine looked like a red juice drink, ahaha.

my piss quite often is kinda green lol. think some vitamins turn it green

yeah i think it was some vitamin or medecine i had in china (vague recollection). but what i do recall vividly was my piss being very green, however only for one slash.

I crave water and always have! I drink probably close to 4L a day without even thinking about it, I even take a glass to bed an drink it throughout the night. I find I can really feel a difference when I haven't had enough water, a headache can be the first sign I'm thirsty.

Also, I'm new here :D HI!

^yeah i always have a large glass on my bedside table too.

welcome to bluelight :)

"Mountain Dew" color, from my perspective / experience. That freaked me out. My piss is not supposed to be a Mountain Dew color, unless it's from plants. Even then, Mountain Dew is just not a good color... ever.

On the aforementioned scale, my pee is usually about a two or a three. It's almost never clear like one indicates.

I feel I'm more lazy on days I don't have much to drink. It's like your body slows down, preparing for a restful day.

I average around 3-4L of water every day. If I'm doing a lot of exercise that day I will easily drink more than that.
If I am not properly hydrated I feel like complete shit, and crave water BADLY! I get debilitating dehydration headaches and get really irritable etc. Therefore I always have a bottle of water on my desk at work, in my car, at my computer at home, on my bedside table, in my bag, etc etc. Water is never too far away from me =D

Whenever the topic of daily water consumption comes up in conversation, people are always astounded that I drink so much water. I think it's completely normal to drink in excess of 3 or 4L a day. It's really shocking to learn how many people only drink like 1-2 glasses (i.e. 300-500mL) of water a day. Water is an essential part of so many bodily process, how is the body supposed to function on that little amount of water?!

Oh and for the record my pee is usually at 1 or 2 on that scale :)

I even take a glass to bed an drink it throughout the night.
I take a 2L bottle of water to bed every night :D I probably drink about 1L throughout the night alone. Then again, I often drink alcohol before bed so that would definitely increase my need for hydration :)

Oh and welcome to Bluelight Michelle! :)

IIRC 8 glasses a day is too much for most people. You can certainly drink too much water, as AP can attest to. One liter is all that is required for the average person.

I really don't know how much I drink. I just chug fluids when I get thirsty until I feel like I've had enough. I'm a sucker for Gatorade though... if I'm thirsty it is what I crave.

What is your source for that info? I'm not saying you're wrong! I'm just curious to read where you got that from :)

Yea that would be interesting to see, being thats the most i usually get in during the day. I would drink more, i like to be hydration and food conscious, but it's such a hassle to carry a water bottle around all day and food is a bitch $$

the ammount of water you'd need to drink before it got toxic is actually quite a lot.

quick wiki search http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

Water intoxication can be prevented if a person's intake of water does not grossly exceed his or her losses.[14] Healthy kidneys are able to excrete approximately 1 litre of fluid water (0.26 gallons) per hour.[14] However, stress (from prolonged physical exertion), as well as disease states, can greatly reduce this amount.[14]

Notable cases
Artist Andy Warhol died from a cardiac arrhythmia. His family sued the hospital, claiming the arrhythmia was a result of water intoxication from being overloaded with fluids after routine gallbladder surgery.[15]
Leah Betts died on November 16, 1995 as the result of drinking too much water, though in the media her death was initially attributed to taking an ecstasy tablet at her 18th birthday party.[16]
On September 12, 1999, US Air Force basic trainee Michael J. Schindler died of heat stroke, severely complicated by water intoxication, two days after becoming seriously ill during a 5.8 miles (9.3 km) march. The Air Force changed its recruit training procedures as a result.[17]
On June 9, 2002, 4-year-old Cassandra Killpack of Springville, Utah died as a result of water intoxication when her parents forcefully fed her as much as one gallon (3.8 liters) of water in a short period while she was being disciplined. Her mother, Jennette Killpack, was convicted in 2005 of child abuse homicide.[18]
On October 12, 2002, 3-year-old Rosita Gonzalez of Hollywood, Florida died of water intoxication when her babysitter Nancy Gayoso punished her by forcing her to drink three quarts (2.8 liters) of water in a four-hour period.[19][20] Gayoso was arrested and charged with murder in the first degree on March 10, 2003. After being declared incompetent to stand trial in 2004 and 2005,[21] Gayoso was found competent on March 26, 2007.
In 2003, Walter Dean Jennings, a freshman history major at SUNY Plattsburgh, was pledging the Psi Epsilon Chi "when he was forced to drink urine, stay awake for days and consume vast amounts of alcohol during a 10-day initiation and hazing process." According to PressRepublican.com, "On his last night of pledging the unrecognized fraternity, the 18-year-old was forced to drink gallons of water through a funnel, which caused his brain to swell from water intoxication and ultimately resulted in his death."[22]
In a much-publicized case of fraternity hazing, four members of the Chi Tau House at California State University, Chico pleaded guilty to forcing 21-year-old student Matthew Carrington to drink excessive amounts of water while performing calisthenics in a frigid basement as part of initiation rites on February 2, 2005.[23] He collapsed and died of heart failure due to water intoxication.
On January 12, 2007, Jennifer Strange, a 28-year-old woman and a mother of 3, from Rancho Cordova, California, was found dead in her home by her mother, hours after trying to win one of Nintendo's Wii game consoles. KDND 107.9 "The End" radio station's "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest, involved drinking large quantities of water without urinating. A nurse actually called the radio station to warn them about the danger in which they were putting people, but the disc jockeys were less than impressed. Lucy Davidson, the winner of the contest, was severely sickened while picking up her prize. Civil charges against the radio station were filed by Jennifer's family,[24] and the family was eventually awarded $16.5 million in the ensuing wrongful death lawsuit.[25] The FCC has launched its own investigation to determine if the station violated the terms of its operating license.
In 2008, Jacqueline Henson, a 40-year-old British woman, died after drinking four liters of water in under two hours as part of her LighterLife diet plan.[26]
Other notable fatalities due to water intoxication include Australian schoolgirl Anna Wood,[27] 2002 Boston Marathon competitor Cynthia Lucero,[28] and Washington, D.C. police officer James McBride.[29]
British actor Anthony Andrews survived a case of water intoxication in 2003. He was performing as Henry Higgins in a revival of the musical My Fair Lady at the time, and consumed up to eight litres of water a day. He was unconscious and in intensive care for three days.[30][31]

^That's toxicity to the point of death. Heavy exercisers or others that drink lots of water get electrolyte imbalance much more often than that.

Neo, it is not any one place I got the info from, it's just from what I've read about things like electrolytes/ kidneys. When I was going through benzo withdrawal I read all about this stuff. Drinking more water than you are thirsty for isn't a good idea.
